The Killing Floor franchise is a first-person shooter multiplayer game series developed by Tripwire Entertainment. The games are set in a post-apocalyptic world, where an attempt by biotech company Horzine at creating clones for usage in the military was botched by a crazy researcher, who let them loose on the streets of the UK instead. In the sequel set a month after where the original game left off, the clones have spread from Europe to the rest of the world, causing governments to fall and responses to be paralysed. In this article, we will be taking a look at when a possible third mainline instalment to the franchise, presumably titled Killing Floor 3, could be coming out. Right, let’s get into it.
If you haven’t already, make sure to check out our article on the new Interstellar Insanity update to Killing Floor 2. As is clear from the new map, weapon cosmetics, Zed skins and effects, as well as brand new weapons that Tripwire have added into the game, their focus is still very much on updating Killing Floor 2 with fresh new content updates to increase player satisfaction and sustain its player base as much as possible.
If we now turn our attention to the release pattern of the Killing Floor games, it becomes clear to see why Tripwire are still dedicating most of their resources to keeping Killing Floor 2 alive, they expect each game to last a good four to five years before it becomes commercially unviable. In fact, the 2009 game was released first as a mod to Epic Games’ Epic Tournament 2004, all the way back in 2005. What this means is that if we look back at how long the original Killing Floor’s concept lasted, it comes to almost an entire decade! The mod’s popularity was so prolonged, that it was a whole four years after its release that Killing Floor was made into a retail game!
Going by the retail pattern, we could be looking at a 2023 release for Killing Floor 3. In case Killing Floor 2 is popular for as long as the original game was, it might even be pushed back to late 2024. Let’s keep our eyes peeled for any info until then!
