Roblox is a game creating and platform system that was released in 2006 by the Roblox Corporation for the PC, iOS, Android, and Xbox One. Sadly, for PlayStation gamers like me, there was never a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 adaptation of the game creating platform. Despite this, Roblox has recorded over 164 million monthly active users in August 2020, and more than half of all children in the USA reportedly played a game on Roblox in the same time frame. In this article, we will be talking about the possible reasons behind Roblox never getting a PlayStation 4 and 5 adaptation and if there is any possibility of it coming out in the future. Right, let’s get straight into it.
While there were rumours online that the developers of Roblox have signed an exclusive deal with Microsoft for their Xbox consoles, this was never backed up due to the fact that Xbox never advertised it as an exclusive. One can imagine the scale of the success that Roblox enjoys for it to be one of the leading game creation platforms without being available on some of the biggest gaming platforms like the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch.
In a recent first quarter of 2021 earnings meeting with investors, CEO and Co-Founder of The Roblox Corporation said, “Switch, PlayStation, Quest – all of these platforms make perfect sense for Roblox”. The PlayStation, the Nintendo Switch, as well as a VR version on the Occulus Quest, could finally be running Roblox!
There is no doubt that this expansion will lead to a massive boom in revenue due to the huge reach boost that Roblox will be getting. Around 120 million PS4s and 90 million Nintendo Switches will easily make for nearly 200 million potential unique users, the largest surge in Roblox’s history. Furthermore, the PlayStation 5 is the quickest selling gaming platform in history, so while official sales numbers for it aren’t out yet, the PS5 is sure to give a major push to Roblox’s popularity, if a version for it will be released in the future.
