Ever since the ban on Huawei in May 2019, the company has been unable to use Google Mobile Services (GMS) on their phones. This means that all Google apps like Google Assistant, Google Search and most importantly Play Store and others do not come pre-installed on Huawei phones. This has been a major problem for old users of Huawei devices and people in the market looking for a new Huawei smartphone. Though, Huawei has countered this with its own Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) which includes Huawei Gallery, which is an app store for Huawei phones and also comes with other services that come pre-installed.
The ban of Huawei in the U.S happened mainly due to accusations that Huawei devices spy on their users and with close ties to the Chinese government, US President Trump felt the need to ban the company for security reasons. The Trump administration put Huawei on a list called Entity list which also included the name of other Chinese companies that are now banned to do business with U.S based companies.
In May 2020, Huawei issued a statement about the new proposed measure that would stop Huawei from using any U.S company technology in its other products too. The company said that if this rule comes to life, it’d affect the company’s expansion, operations and cost Huawei billions of dollars. Though, these issues do not change the problems that a regular Huawei user faces.
Users of Huawei devices do search for ways to sideloads apps from Google like YouTube, Play Games, Gmail and ofcourse, the Play Store.
