Over the past few years, a ton of augmented reality mobile titles have popped up but not a single one has been able to emulate the success of Niantic’s Pokemon Go. Released back in 2016, the game continues to dominate the AR game market, having generated billions in revenue. While there has been a revenue slump lately, Niantic seems to be quite confident in Pokemon Go, as the company recently affirmed its commitment to supporting the game for the long term. New Pokemon are still being added to the game and this guide here will help you catch one of them. The 9th Generation Pokemon Scarlet/Violet debutant, Gimmighoul.
Currently, players can only catch the Roaming Form Gimmighoul in Pokemon Go, as the Chest From Gimmighoul is yet to be introduced into the game. Gimmighoul was added to the game last year, on February 27, 2023, along with its evolution – Gholdengo. For the uninitiated, Gimmighoul is a ghost-type Pokemon that, as we mentioned before, has two forms. In Scarlet/Violet you can only catch the Chest Form Gimmighoul, as the other one simply runs away when interacted with. Although, it does leave behind some Gimmighoul Coins. The rarity of the Roaming Form Gimmighoul in Scarlet/Violet is also one of the reasons why so many players want to catch it. With that brief introduction over, let’s go ahead and find out how you can catch a Gimmighoul (Roaming Form) in Pokemon Go.
How to get Gimmighoul in Pokemon Go
Getting the Pokemon Go Coin Bag
You simply can’t open Pokemon Go and expect to catch a Gimmighoul in the game. Unlike most other Pokemon, Gimmighoul doesn’t spawn normally in the game. In order to catch a Gimmighoul in the game, you will need a Coin Bag. But how can you get that? Well, for that, you will need to have either Pokemon Scarlet or Violet purchased and installed on your Nintendo Switch. If it’s there, simply connect your Pokemon Go account to Pokemon Scarlet or Violet. You can follow the steps mentioned below if you don’t happen to know how to do that:
- Launch Pokemon Scarlet/Violet on your Nintendo Switch and open Poke Portal.
- When you are in the menu, select Mystery Gift and click on Connect to Pokemon Go option.
- Now, open Pokemon Go on your device and head to Settings. Make sure to select Nintendo Switch.
- Next, get back to Pokemon Scarlet/Violet and click on Pair with a Pokemon GO account.
- Head to Settings in Pokemon Go and select Connected Devices and Services. In there, you will see four options, including Nintendo Switch. Select it and then click on Connect to Nintendo Switch under Resources. Now, all you need to do is wait for both Pokemon Go and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet to pair.
Once your accounts are connected, you just need to send a Postcard from Pokemon Go to Pokemon Scarlet/Violet. You can do that by navigating to Postcard Book located in your Pokemon Go Profile, selecting a Postcard, clicking on the hamburger menu, and then selecting Send to Nintendo Switch. This will unlock the Coin Bag feature in the game.
Catching Gimmighoul
Note that the Coin Bag can only be used once per day in Pokemon Go and lasts for exactly thirty minutes. The reason it’s so important to unlock the Coin Bag in the game is because, when activated, it will spawn a Roaming form Gimmighoul near you. If you are walking around, it will spawn one Roaming form Gimmighoul every minute and if you are sitting down, then it will spawn one Gimmighoul every five minutes. But remember that it’s only going to spawn for a limited time, so try your best to catch it. By the way, besides the Coin Bag, players will also receive a Golden Lure Module as a reward.
You can generally use whatever berries you like when catching a Gimmighoul. However, using a Nanab Berry can make catching a Gimmighoul a lot easier as it slows down a Pokemon’s movement.
Evolving a Gimmighoul to Gholdengo
To evolve a Gimmighoul to Gholdengo, you will need 999 Gimmighoul Coins. But how can you get that many coins? The answer lies in your throw. Put simply, the more accurate your throw is, the more likely you are to get a Gimmighoul Coin. Hence, we suggested that you use Nanab Berry in the previous paragraph. You will know when you receive a coin when you see this message: Gimmighoul dropped Gimmighoul Coins. However, that isn’t the only way to obtain Gimmighoul Coins. By spinning Golden Pokestops, there’s a chance that you might get a Gimmighoul Coin. You can also earn some candies and coins from walking with your Gimmighoul, provided you have assigned it as your Buddy Pokemon. Aside from that, there’s also the Golden Box in the shop, which gives you nine free coins. Once you have collected 999 Gimmighoul Coins, simply click on the Evolve button and your Gimmighoul will evolve into a Gholdengo.
Golden Lure?
Players can get Golden Lure by sending in multiple postcards to Pokemon Scarlet/Violet. But since you can only send one Postcard per day, getting your first Golden Lure will take some days. To be exact, you need to send a Postcard for five days in order to get your first Golden Lure. Once you are in possession of a Golden Lure, you can use it to turn Pokestops into Golden Pokestops. And as we stated before, when spun, there’s a chance to get Gimmighoul Coins. Furthermore, a Gimmighoul also might spawn near you if you are lucky enough. Now it’s important to remember that you can only have one Golden Lure at a time. If you receive a second Golden Lure while having one already, then it will automatically get turned into Gimmighoul Coins. So, make sure that you use your Golden Lure before you receive the next one. But if you are rather short on Gimmighoul Coins, then refrain from using it.
By the way, don’t think that you can’t catch a Gimmighoul if you don’t have a Nintendo Switch or Pokemon Scarlet/Violet. You just need to find a Pokestop that someone has activated using the Golden Lure.
