IO Interactive and Epic Games Store are working together to prevent PC players from previous games from having to buy them again to be able to enjoy them on Hitman 3. While IO Interactive had promised, swore, spat, in accordance with what Hitman 2 had done in his time with Hitman 1, previous levels from Hitman 2, all like items unlocked while playing, could be re-imported into Hitman 3 in order to be able to continue the adventure with all of its achievements, it turned out to be a little more complex than expected.
Indeed, let’s remember that it all started in 2016 with Square Enix for Hitman 1 before continuing in 2018 with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for Hitman 2, before ending in 2020 with a self-publishing from IO Interactive who chose to go no longer through Steam for the PC version of the game, but through the Epic Games Store.
So much so that, for “various circumstances”, IOI had to resolve to revise its plans on PC by finding as only solution to get out of it only to buy Hitman 2 again on the EGS. A proposal which, we can imagine, did not delight the players, as fans of the license as they may be.
We’ve done everything we can to make this process smooth and user-friendly. However, due to various circumstances beyond our control, we recognize that the process is different from our original plans for PC gamers.
However, a cost-saving solution has been made: the Access Pass for the GOTY edition of Hitman 1 can be redeemed for free for 10 days after the launch of Hitman 3, and that of Hitman 2 will be offered at an 80% discount for 14 days. However, this does not specify whether the transfer of progression remains relevant in this case.
Two days before the title’s release, on January 20, 2021 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Stadia and Switch, since Nintendo’s console will finally host the game at the same time as other Cloud version supports, IO Interactive finally announced on Twitter that they were working with the Epic Games Store to find a solution that lived up to their initial word.
No re-buying Hitman episodes to port to Hitman 3
In fact, even if it will not be operational when the game is released, they guarantee that PC players with Hitman 1 and/or 2 will not have to pay for them again. This is also added by EGS by emphasising the fact that they will never want to force players to buy a game on their platform that they already own on another.
We never want players to feel forced to repurchase content on the Epic Game Store that they bought on another PC store so they can access features in a new game.
We are working closely with IO Interactive and you will be able to access past content from earlier HITMAN games. https://t.co/1MAT1O0Nly

Remember that the transfer of data, possible only once between platforms of the same family, must be done before the first launch of Hitman 3 via a dedicated site and using an IOI account. Indeed, if you do it a post booting, you will then lose all the progress made in the meantime on Hitman 3.
All that remains is to hope that the transfer from Steam will always be possible with a new copy of the game on EGS and that this matter will be quickly settled in order to be able to play the assassin as quickly as possible in the best conditions without risking losing anything.
