Developed and published by German indie video game development studio Chasing Carrots, Halls of Torment is the newest title in the horde survival/bullet heaven genre. The game was released as a Steam Early Access title on 24 May 2023 and has been receiving great reception from both critics and fans of the genre. Mixing the old-school retro aesthetic of 90s RPG titles with the gameplay design of Vampire Survivors, the game has quickly garnered a lot of positive attention. And one of the many reasons behind it is the fun characters you get to play with. Among those available characters is – Sorcerer/Sorceress.
Unlike Vampire Survivors, where characters have unique names, Halls of Torment uses the classic class name to distinguish between playable characters. Case in point: the Sorcerer/Sorceress. This gives the player a good idea of how and what a particular character will play as. For example, Archer will focus on ranged attacks, while the Swordsman will be more of a close combat style character. So, what about the Sorcerer/Sorceress in Halls of Torment? How do you unlock it in the game? Let’s find out about that!
Halls of Torment Sorcerer/Sorceress: How to get & unlock
For the uninitiated, currently, there are seven playable characters/classes available in Halls of Torment. The Sorceress is one of them. When it comes to the viability of this particular character in the game, she usually ranks much higher than most. But her abilities and capabilities still pale in comparison to those of the Shieldmaiden.
Unlocking the Sorceress is particularly difficult due to the prerequisite, which is killing 10,000 enemies in the Forgotten Viaduct. Now, sending 10,000 enemies to their deaths is a doable but long task, but it’s the other part where the problem arises. The Forgotten Viaduct is chock full of deadly enemies and is known for being one of the harder “maps” in the game. However, many people have been able to unlock the Sorceress, so completing this quest isn’t entirely impossible.
If you already have Shieldmaiden unlocked, we suggest you use her to complete this task. Additionally, you should also try saving the Wellkeeper as soon as possible since doing so will allow you to save one item from your run, which you can use for future runs too. We also recommend that you get whatever blessings you can. Just keep upgrading your builds and blessings so that you can kill enemies faster. However, upgrading the Attack Speed, Area/Projectile Size, and Attack Range blessings can be very useful.
The Sorcerer/Sorceress is great for area-of-effect damage in the game. Firing lightning bolts at enemies, these attacks can hit multiple targets at once. Offensively, this class/character is a great choice, but when it comes to defense, it isn’t quite as good. Suffice it to say, the Sorcerer/Sorceress should be your go-to choice if you want to dish out ridiculous amounts of damage without caring about being defensive.
