Stardew Valley is the reason why Roots of Pacha, Graveyard Keeper, and Sun Haven are popular titles. Vampire Survivors is the reason why titles like Brotato, 20 Minutes Till Dawn, and Halls of Torment have gained massive popularity. Developed and published by Chasing Carrots, it is currently a PC-exclusive game. Published under Steam’s Early Access program, it officially launched on May 24, 2023, and according to the Steam FAQ section, it will remain under the program for six more months or so. Reception around the game seems to be quite positive, with praise going towards its unique retro art style and fun playable characters. And when it comes to those “fun playable characters”, many players in the community can’t stop hurling praise towards the subject of this article, The Shieldmaiden. Halls of Torment Shieldmaiden: How to get & unlock
As of writing this article, the Shieldmaiden is one of the seven playable classes in Halls of Torment. Currently, the Shieldmaiden class is among the best in the game thanks to the strongest defense the character boasts along with the knock-back ability of its attack. All in all, you can’t go wrong with the Shieldmaiden.
Now, in order to get the Shieldmaiden, players will need to defeat the Wraith Horseman in the Forgotten Viaduct. In-game, the Forgotten Viaduct is one of the many halls a player can start their run on. The Wraith Horseman itself is an elite enemy, and as such, a good number of them will spawn in the “map”, giving you multiple and ample opportunities to unlock the Shieldmaiden. Do note that this elite enemy will only spawn when the timer has only about twenty-four minutes left.
To defeat the Wraith Horseman, you just have to stay out of their line of sight. These elites can summon guards, launch spear attacks, and rain down arrows on their targets. You can avoid the rain arrow attack by avoiding the green circles. Do the same with the spear attacks. Just keep attacking and evading their attacks. The Shieldmaiden is arguably the best character/class to get right now. Her all-around offensive and defensive capabilities make her a beast in the late game, and you will not regret getting her.
