It has only been a while since Grounded 2 was released in early access. This will prove advantageous in the long run for bug fixes and feedback-based updates. Among other things, players are expecting the developers to introduce a dedicated server when the game is released. Since the game offers incredible features and an interactive story, it can be best enjoyed with friends. For this purpose, a dedicated server is needed to ensure connectivity and hosting. The prequel used shared worlds for the game, which had certain disadvantages. In this article, we have highlighted the differences between a shared world and a dedicated server, and whether it will be added or not.
Grounded 2 dedicated server release date: When will it be available
A dedicated server hosts the game and allows other players to join in. So one person will pay for the server while others can play even if the host is not online. It also provides a stable connection for playing. The demand for dedicated servers for Grounded 2 was mainly to improve the multiplayer experience. Shared worlds on the other hand are at the mercy of the host. In this, one person’s save files are used to host the game for all others who join in. This brings up a couple of problems for the multiplayer experience.
The host and other players may experience lag, high latency, and desync issues. Rubberbanding is another consequence where the character is pulled back and forth from the same position whenever it tries to move. Though it autosaves your progress, there is only one copy of the save file, and if it gets corrupted, all data could be lost. It has a limit on the number of players that can join at a time. If the host disconnects, all other members will disconnect automatically.
However, it has the advantage that progress can be made quickly in a shared world, as the same save file is used. Also, you can download the shared world data to make a non-shared copy. You can progress solo in this copy and then re-upload it for other players to join in. You can also access shared worlds from the Xbox Game Pass or Steam. Therefore, you can log in to the game from either platform, and your progress will still be saved.
Conclusion
Coming to the main issue, there is no word about any dedicated servers for Grounded 2 yet. However, we are speculating that the developers will introduce this in the future or provide an alternative. Since Obsidian Entertainment is putting so much effort into the game, it’s unlikely that they won’t improve the multiplayer experience.
