The latest addition to the Granblue Fantasy series and the sequel to 2020’s Granblue Fantasy Versus is finally here. Simply titled Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, the game was just launched on December 14, 2023, for Windows, PS4, and PS5. Reviews for the game are quite good so far, but unfortunately, it seems like many PC players are facing a crashing issue right now. If you too are encountering a similar problem, continue reading this guide until the end.
It’s hard to say what’s causing this issue. The cause could be anything ranging from a simple driver issue to a corrupted or missing game file. Nevertheless, this is a major issue and hence needs to be addressed immediately. So, here’s everything you need to know about fixing it.
Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising crashing on PC: How to fix it?
For now, you can use these workarounds, as the developers are yet to release an official patch update for the issue. So, try these and see if any of them are of help to you.
Restart –
First, restart your PC, and then check if the crashing issue persists. This isn’t a surefire way to fix the issue, but it’s a common and simple method to try first. If the issue persists, switch to another workaround.
Update your GPU drivers –
Make sure you aren’t keeping outdated drivers. If you haven’t updated the GPU drivers in a while, do so. However, if you already have the most updated drivers installed, then try the next workaround.
Change Desktop Resolution –
Changing Desktop Resolution is something that might just help you fix this issue. So, first, open Windows Settings and then switch to System. From there, you will find Display Resolution under Scale & Layout, set the resolution to 1920×1080 and then launch the game. If it crashes, try switching to a lower resolution.
Change Scale to 100% –
Changing the scale to 100% is also another potential fix for this issue. If you don’t know what this does, it simply changes “the size of text, apps, and other items“. Now, to change the scale, you just need to follow the same steps as the previous fix. Just right above the Display Resolution option, you will find Scale. Click on the drop-down list and there will be four options: 100%, 125%, 150%, and 175%. While 125% is the Windows recommended one, you need to click on 100%.
Change High DPI settings –
For this one, what we recommend you do is open Steam and then switch to the Library tab. Right-click on Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, and select Manage > Browse local files. You will now find yourself in the game’s installation folder with two folders and one exe file: Engine, RED, and GBFVR. Right-click on the exe and select Properties. Switch to the Compatibility tab and then click on the Change high DPI settings button. Checkmark the following two options and select Application for both the options given:
- Use the setting to fix scaling problems for this program instead of the one in Settings.
- Override high DPI scaling behavior.
End the process by clicking OK, then once again OK and Apply.
Run GBFVR on a dedicated GPU –
This particular fix is mainly for laptop players and those who have both an iGPU and a dedicated GPU installed. When there’s an iGPU and a dedicated GPU installed, a program might prioritize using the iGPU unless specified specifically to run on a dedicated GPU. And iGPUs are far less powerful than a GPU, which then leads to crashing, freezing issues, and whatnot. So, what you should do is make the game run on a dedicated GPU. And the following is how you do it:
- Type in Graphics settings on the search bar and open it.
- Now, click on the Browse button and add the game’s .exe to the list below.
- Once that’s done, click on the game and select Options.
- Next, select High Performance from the options given and click on Save.
Use launch options –
You can also make use of Steam’s Launch Options feature to deal with this problem. Basically, you need to open Steam and click on Library. From there, right-click on GBFVR and select Properties > General. At the bottom of the General setting, you will find Launch Options. Type in -dx11 and launch the game. If it doesn’t work, replace that command with -dx12 and once again launch GBFVR.
Delete save game files –
A corrupted save game file can also be a possible cause of this issue. However, even if your saved files are not corrupt, you can try deleting them to see if it fixes this crashing problem. But do know that this will mean you will lose all of your progress and, hence, start a new save file. So, if you are okay with that, then just follow the instructions below:
- Launch File Manager and open C drive > Users > [YourUsername Folder] > AppData > Local > GBVSR.
- Inside, you will see one folder named – Saved. You open it, and there will be four more folders: Config, Download, Logs, and SaveGames. Your saved data is in the last one.
- Open the SaveGames folder and delete all the saved data inside. If you want, you can also delete the entire GBVSR folder.
- Once the deletion is complete, launch the game.
Check the minimum requirements –
A very common reason behind issues like this could be that your PC simply doesn’t meet the minimum system requirements for the game. Now, here are the official minimum requirements shared by Cygames, so check that your PC is capable of running the game:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- OS: Windows 10 (64-bit OS required)
- Processor: AMD FX-4350, 4.2 GHz / Intel Core i5-3470, 3.20 GHz
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Graphics: Radeon HD 6870, 1 GB / GeForce GTX 650 Ti, 1 GB
- DirectX: Version 11
- Network: Broadband Internet connection
- Storage: 20 GB available space
- Sound Card: DirectX compatible soundcard or onboard chipset
If your PC is more than capable of running GBFVR, try the next fix.
Verify game files –
When a game has a corrupted or missing file, you are more likely to face issues like this one. Verifying game files is the only way to fix that. So, if you haven’t tried this method, do so.
- First, start by launching Steam and click on Library.
- Find GBFVR and right-click on it.
- Select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.
- Once the verification process is over, restart your PC and then launch the game.
Run the game as an administrator –
Running the game as an administrator can also help with this issue. A ton of games require admin access for proper functioning, and the same may be the case here. So, what you need to do is:
- Right-click on the game’s .exe file or shortcut and select Properties.
- Switch to the Compatibility tab and there you will see the “Run this program as an administrator” option.
- Checkmark that option. End the process by clicking Apply and OK.
Reinstall –
If the issue continues to trouble you, we highly recommend you reinstall the game. So, just uninstall the game and then start a new download. Once the download is finished and the game is installed, launch it and find out if the issue still exists or not.
Well, that’s all the information we have on this issue. Additionally, if you want to know about Steam Deck support details for the game, check out this guide. And, for more guides like this, keep following DigiStatement. Also, read: Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising Fatal Error: Is there any fix yet?
