2024 has just started and we are already getting one banger after another. From Palworld to Tekken 8, there’s just so many great games to play and enjoy. And now, there’s one more game being added to this list: Granblue Fantasy: Relink. Developed and published by Cygames, GFR saw its release on February 1, 2024, and since then has constantly been receiving positive reviews from both critics and fans. And while it’s certainly one of the best games of 2024, there are some issues with it that need to be resolved ASAP. A major one of them is the controller disconnecting issue.
No one really knows what’s causing this issue. For some, it could be due to Steam itself, while for others, the issue could be the result of a bad controller. And while we might not know the cause, we sure do have some workarounds to fix it. So, continue reading to learn everything about them.
Granblue Fantasy Relink Controller Disconnecting Issue: How to fix it?
While an official fix is not available for now, players can use the following workarounds to resolve this issue:
Restart Steam –
First of all, we suggest that you start with restarting Steam. This seems to have helped some players, so try this. Additionally, you can also restart the game itself and find out if that works. If the issue persists, switch to the next workaround.
Use DS4Windows –
For some players, what worked for them was to simply use DS4 Windows. So, head to this website, download DS4Windows, and install it. Once DS4Windows is set up, connect your controller and check if it still disconnects. By the way, some have suggested disabling Steam Input and then connecting your controller to DS4Windows in order to fix this issue, so you can try that too. If you don’t know how to disable Steam Input, just follow the instructions below:
- Close GFR and head to the Steam Library.
- Find GFR, right-click on it, and select Properties.
- Now, switch to the Controller tab, and from the drop-down menu, select Disable Steam Input.
Another similar fix for this is mentioned below:
- Once DS4Windows is installed, launch it and install hidhide.
- Now, restart your PC, and after that, start hidhide.
- In hidhide, add DS4Windows to the whitelist and hide your controller.
- Next, start DS4Windows, launch Steam, and head to Settings > Controller. Make sure that only Xbox360 is listed as a controller in there.
Disable Steam Overlay –
Disabling Steam Overlay is also something you can try to fix this issue. To do that, just open Steam, head to Library, and right-click on GFR. Now, select Properties > General and untick the “Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game” option. Click OK, and then launch the game.
Set DS4Windows controller profile to Xbox –
As you might have guessed already, this particular method is related to the previous method. Basically, what this workaround suggests is to simply set your controller profile to Xbox instead of PlayStation. This seems to work for resolving this issue, so try it.
Use another controller –
If you happen to have another controller lying around, connect it and see if it disconnects too. If it doesn’t, then the issue is with your previous controller. However, if the new controller disconnects too, then the issue is most likely with the game itself and not the controllers.
Update –
Players should always make sure that the game is running on the latest available version. Furthermore, you should also ensure that the controller has been updated with the latest firmware. Updating is a common fix and prevention against issues like this, so always keep that in mind.
Switch to wired –
For those who have been trying to play the game with controllers in wireless mode, switch to wired. At times, wireless connections might not work at all and in such cases, the only option is to use a cable to connect your controller. So, do this, and if even this doesn’t help, try the next workaround.
Use mouse and keyboard –
This is more of an alternative rather than an outright fix. In case your controller keeps disconnecting and none of the aforementioned workarounds are of help, we recommend you switch to using a mouse and keyboard.
Well, that’s all the workarounds we have for this issue. Additionally, if you want to know where the save file location of Granblue Fantasy: Relink is located, take a quick look here.
