Matchmaking Error #1 is a frequently arising issue in Fortnite. Well, players have reported encountering this issue without any valid reason. Various forums are filled with players discussing this error. Now, as the error is common, there are several fixes to resolve it. So, we have listed the workarounds below for you to try.

Reddit Workaround

According to a player on Reddit, there is an unusual way to fix this error in the game. Although this fix is for players in a party. So, first, ask everyone in your lobby/party to click on the Ready button (including you) and then click it again to be unready. After this, if you are the party leader, press the Ready button to make your status ready. Then, tell your friends to do the same. However, you can also try to change fill to no-fill or Ranked to Unranked game modes and check if the issue is resolved. Also, players can leave the lobby, head for solos, and then rejoin the lobby. Doing so should fix the issue. If the issue persists, try the following workarounds:

Restart the Game

First and foremost, the primary troubleshooting method to resolve the error should be restarting the game. It helps the game to refresh and, hence, reload all the files properly. After this, there is a high chance that the matchmaking error is gone.

Check Internet Connection

A slow and unstable internet connection can also cause this error. So, make sure that the Internet connection you are using is stable. Restarting the router and modem could refresh the connection. Also, you can try a wired connection to get better stability.

Check Server Status

Sometimes there are issues with the Fortnite servers that lead to the error popup. So, you can check the Fortnite server status to see if they are to blame or not. If the servers are down, you will have to wait and try again later.

Make sure crossplay is enabled

If the issue persists, ensure that the crossplay option is enabled in-game. It might be the reason why the matchmaking error #1 is popping up whenever you start matchmaking in Fortnite.

Change the Region

In many cases, changing the in-game region has fixed the error in Fortnite. Follow the steps below to try this fix:

  • Launch Fortnite, and click on the Menu option.
  • Next, select the Settings option.
  • Now, click on the gear icon on top to open the Language and Region menu.
  • Select the Matchmaking Region option.
  • Change the region to Auto or the one closest to your geographical location.
  • Now, click Apply.
  • Once done, start the matchmaking process and check if the issue persists.

Try joining a different party

This error can be limited to the party you are currently in. So, to verify whether that’s the case, consider joining a different party in-game, and then check if the issue persists.

Verify the Game Files

Often, the game files could be missing or corrupted, leading to such an error. So, repairing those files could fix the issue. So, to verify game files via Epic Games: Go to the Epic Games library. Head over to the game tile of Fortnite and click on the three-dot icon. Now, select Manage, and click on Verify. After this, relaunch the game.
