Single-player action RPG games are known to offer a bunch of difficulty options for the players to choose from, and Final Fantasy XVI is no exception to this fact. Being a single-player title, the game retains its player base by offering a total of three difficulty options. Well, if you are interested in playing the game but don’t know which Difficulty mode to choose, consider reading this guide until the end, as we have shared details regarding all the difficulty settings featured in FFXVI.
In-game difficulty modes offer high replayability value as they allow players to alter every aspect of the game. If you choose a higher difficulty level, the incoming enemies will have more HP, thereby posing a greater challenge to deal with. However, in FFXVI, the offered difficulty modes are a bit different than the traditional ones. Players have the ability to choose between two modes at the start of their journey, and they can be changed later on as well. For more details, continue reading.
Final Fantasy XVI (FFXVI): All Difficulty Settings & How to Change Them
Before diving into the details of the different difficulty settings that the game offers, you should first know how to change them in-game. To change the difficulty settings in FFXVI, press the menu button on your controller while in-game, then head to the System tab. Now, under the Game Settings tab, you will find the Gameplay option. This is the option you need to change to alter the difficulty in-game. With that said, here are the difficulty settings that FFXVI offers:
Note: You can change the difficulty settings in-game any time you wish, unless you are in combat, or in a cutscene.
Story Focused
As you can guess from the name itself, choosing this difficulty mode will let you breeze through the in-game story without having to worry much about combat. In this mode, your character will have the Timely Accessories tools (only 3 can be equipped at any point) enabled right from the start. With these tools, you will have the ability to slow down time moments before taking damage, use a combination of attacks using a single button, and much more. The enemies will have low HP and low attacking power as well. Here’s the list of Timely Accessories that you can equip:
- Ring of Timely Assistance: Allows Torgal to attack automatically without commands
- Ring of Timely Healing: Allows Clive to heal automatically using Potion without having to do it manually
- Ring of Timely Focus: Allows Clive to dodge attacks by slowing down time
- Ring of Timely Strikes: Allows Clive to perform a complex combination of attacks using a single button (Square button)
- Ring of Timely Evasion: Allows Clive to automatically evade certain attacks
Action Focused Mode
A bit harder than the Story-Focused mode, this mode doesn’t come with the Timely Accessory Tools equipped. Enemies in this mode are also a bit tough to deal with. So, your in-game combat will be more challenging. However, you can also equip these tools as well by accessing them in the Gear and Eikons tab.
Hard Mode? (Final Fantasy Mode)
Well, now comes the Final Fantasy Mode. Well, you cannot access this difficulty setting unless you complete the game once in any of the above modes. Once you are done with that, you need to access the New Game + setting and select Final Fantasy Mode to begin your journey. In this mode, the enemies will be tougher, but all your abilities, levels, EXP, items, and equipment will be carried over. The enemy encounters are also altered in this mode to provide a fresh experience.
Anyway, that’s all you need to know about the difficulty settings featured in FFXVI and how to change them. We hope you find this guide informative. For more such guides, make sure to stay tuned with us on DigiStatement.
