Final Fantasy 16 Lock on Not Working Issue: Is There Any Fix Yet?

Whenever a new game comes out, fans expect better and smoother gameplay. Especially if the game is a continuation of a popular series like Final Fantasy, expectations seem to skyrocket. The release of Final Fantasy 16 wasn’t an exception. The latest title in the Final Fantasy series came out on June 22nd, 2023, as a PS5 exclusive. The anticipation around Final Fantasy 16 was really high, but the game has hit quite a few bumps along the way. Players have reported facing different errors and issues that have resulted in a poor gaming experience. For instance, take the issue with the in-game lock-on feature. Several players took to the forums and said that they aren’t able to set their targets on specific enemies during combat because the lock-on feature isn’t working properly. If you’ve faced the same issue, keep reading to find out how to fix it or if it is even fixable.

In Final Fantasy 16, combat is a major component of the gameplay. The lock-on feature in Final Fantasy games offers assistance during combat to a great extent. This is especially true when you’re taking on multiple enemies at the same time. By using the lock on enemies feature, you can set your camera on one particular enemy and use your moves to take them down. By having the enemy locked on, you won’t have to manually move your camera in their direction every time they move. This feature is included in Final Fantasy 16 as well, or at least that’s what the developers say. In reality, although the game has the lock-on feature, it is not working as intended. So, what can you do to fix it?

Final Fantasy 16 Lock on Not Working Issue: Is There a Fix?

Final Fantasy 16 Lock On Not Working

The lock on feature in Final Fantasy 16 is quite choppy, and sadly, there isn’t an official fix for this issue yet. The developers have maintained silence on this matter while the players are left dealing with it on their own. Irrespective of how skilled you are in Final Fantasy combat, missing out on such a key feature can definitely impact your gameplay. Well, if you didn’t already know, you can lock onto your enemies by pressing the L1 button (Control Type A) on your controller and then using the R3 button to switch between enemies. However, most reported that no control seems to be working, which has led to frustration in the community. Anyway, here are some workarounds you should consider trying:

Check your controller to be sure

Well, make sure that your controller is connected properly. If it isn’t, then it won’t really register the commands. Also, check for hardware damage, as a faulty controller can be the cause of this problem.

Battle fewer enemies at a time

Since the lock on feature is quite buggy, it is recommended that you battle only 2-3 enemies at a time for it to work efficiently. In chaotic situations where you are fighting more than 3–4 enemies simultaneously, the lock on feature will fail to keep up, thereby causing problems during combat.

Wait for the next patch update

We understand that playing the game without a proper lock on feature can be really challenging. However, there isn’t really a fix for this issue yet, as mentioned earlier. Thus, you’ll need to wait for an official patch update that fixes it for good. Hopefully, the developers are taking note of the issue and will fix it in an upcoming patch.

Well, this is all we have on whether there is a fix for the lock on feature not working issue in Final Fantasy 16. Hopefully, you find this article helpful in answering your concerns. For more such guides and gaming-related content, keep visiting DigiStatement!
