Yoshi-P once saved Final Fantasy XIV from being laid to rest in the graveyard of dead MMOs and turned it into a golden goose. The man has now done the same with the latest Final Fantasy game. Released on June 22, 2023, as a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 5, he, Hiroshi Takai, and Kazutoyo Maehiro have once again proved that mainline Final Fantasy games are alive and well. Developed using a brand new game engine, the game has revamped its predecessor’s action-based combat while also bringing back the age-old summon system and more. Critics and fans alike seem to be enjoying the game, as evidenced by the glowing reviews it has received. However, the game does seem to be suffering from some technical issues. For example, lots of players have been complaining about the game crashing during cutscenes.
This isn’t something new when it comes to new game releases. Issues like these have plagued games for a long time. And as such, there are some workarounds to get rid of them. So, here are a few to help you deal with this “crashing during cutscenes” problem in Final Fantasy 16 (FFXVI).
Final Fantasy 16 (FFXVI) Crashing during cutscenes issue: Is there any fix yet
At the time of writing this article, there is no official fix pertaining to this particular issue. And since the root cause is yet to be found, we recommend you follow this guide thoroughly.
Restart game –
First and foremost, start with a quick restart of the game. Although it is not guaranteed to fix the ongoing problem, you can still try this method. Just remember to save your progress before you proceed with this method. If this doesn’t fix your issue, then you can try the next workaround.
Restart your console –
Now, the next thing you can do is restart your console. The most trivial of issues is just a restart away from being solved, so go ahead and try restarting your console.
Update the PS5 –
You should also update your console if you haven’t done so in a long time. Sony regularly releases updates for the PS5 console, and it’s best for the console’s health that you download and install them. To update your PS5, go to Settings > System Software > Select System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software.
Install the day one patch –
Developers also constantly release updates for games to better optimize them. Furthermore, day-one patches are one of the most important updates for any game, and Final Fantasy XVI also received one. If you haven’t downloaded the latest day-one patch, then we recommend you do so immediately.
Switch to Frame Rate Mode –
If you didn’t already know, the game offers two modes for you to experience. One is the Graphics mode, which of course provides better visuals at the cost of performance, while the other is the Frame Rate mode, which focuses more on stability while compromising the visuals. So, if the game is crashing during cutscenes, consider switching the game mode to Frame Rate mode. To do so, navigate to the System tab of FFXVI and find the Game Performance Option. Change it to Frame Rate mode, save the changes, and then continue playing.
Redownload game –
If nothing else works, then it’s best you redownload/reinstall the game. After a reinstall, the issue might get fixed itself.
With that said, we hope the provided workarounds prove to be of help in fixing the crashing during cutscenes issue in Final Fantasy 16. For more guides and info on Final Fantasy XVI and other games in general, keep checking out DigiStatement.
