June 22, 2023, marked the launch of one of the most anticipated games of this year, Final Fantasy 16. Developed by Square Enix’s Creative Business Unit III under Yoshi P, Hiroshi Takai, and Kazutoyo Maehiro, the game has been receiving some pretty great reviews from critics, with much of it going towards its fast and reflex-driven combat and story, as always. Final Fantasy 16 (FFXVI) marks the series’ return to form after the underwhelming response the previous title (FFXV) got upon its release back in 2016. Now, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows over here. Final Fantasy 16 does seem to be suffering from some major issues. Although most of it is on the technical side. Recently, players have been complaining about the game crashing when the world map shows up on their screens. So, if you are reading this guide, chances are that you have encountered the same
Crashes aren’t something new to games, and they shouldn’t come as a surprise. But this doesn’t mean that they can’t be fixed. Like most other problems in video games, a few workarounds exist that could potentially resolve this issue. And so, here’s a guide that will help you deal with this “crashing at world map” issue in Final Fantasy 16 (FFXVI).
Final Fantasy 16 (FFXVI) Crashing at World Map Issue: Is there any fix yet
We haven’t received any official fixes for this issue. Due to this, it’s best to follow this guide diligently and hope one of the provided workarounds does the trick.
Restart PS5 –
You can start the fixing process by doing a quick restart of the console first. Restarting is the best and simplest method to resolve most issues, so you can try it before moving on to more complex ones. If restarting the console doesn’t work, then you should try the next method.
Rebuild your PlayStation database –
Square Enix also recommends that you try rebuilding the console’s database if you’re encountering crashes in FFXVI. To do so, turn off your PlayStation 5. Next, hold the power button until you hear two beeps. After that, connect your controller to the console using a USB cable, and then press the PS button on it. From the options provided on the screen, select “Rebuild Database” and wait for the console to finish the process. After this is done, launch the game and check whether it crashes now.
Play the game in Performance mode –
Performance mode, as the name suggests, prioritizes performance over graphics. As such, it’s particularly helpful for mitigating issues like these, provided you are okay with having somewhat less visual quality in games. To start, go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Game Presets. On the right side, you will see the option – Performance Mode or Resolution Mode. Click on it and set it to Performance Mode.
Switch to Frame Rate Mode –
As the PS5 offers you two game presets, FFXVI also comes with two game modes that you can choose from. For this, head to the System tab of the game and navigate your way to the Game Performance mode. Here, set the option to Frame Rate Mode, and save the changes. Now, restart the game, and then check whether it crashes while loading the world map.
Reinstall the game –
There’s also the reinstall method. For this, you will need to uninstall the game first. So, we recommend that you upload your progress to the cloud if you don’t want to lose it. Once you have done that, delete/uninstall the game from your console, and then promptly install it again. This should fix the issue for good.
