EA Sports launched the latest entry into the F1 series on June 16, 2023. Titled F1 23, the game is developed by British video game development studio Codemasters and published by EA Sports. Fans are more than excited for this one, as the closed beta was a blast to play. However, this release also comes with some annoying issues. One such major issue has been the game not detecting wheels on Xbox consoles.
Multi-platform games can be particularly hard for developers to maintain and develop. While it isn’t an impossible task, it can still be a tough challenge, even for an AAA studio. And issues like these are not something the developers can completely fix, as the root cause can range from a problem with the console to the wheel itself. Regardless, we do have some potential workarounds that might help you fix this problem.
F1 23 (F1 2023) not detecting wheel on Xbox: How to fix it?
At the time of writing this article, the issue hasn’t been officially acknowledged, so you will need to make do with the workarounds provided in this guide.
Reconnect controller multiple times –
Well, to fix this issue, the easiest and most effective method is to disconnect and reconnect the controller multiple times, until the game recognizes it. This method has worked for many, so make sure to give it a try.
Update your console –
If your console is outdated, then it might be the reason why the wheel is not detected when connected to it. Updates are necessary for your console’s health, and without them, you are leaving your console vulnerable to major issues and errors. To update your Xbox console, follow the given steps:
Xbox Series X/S –
Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the menu. Navigate to Profile & System and select Settings. Now, go to System, and on the right side of the screen, choose Updates. Next, select the “Latest console update status” button and wait for the console to finish checking for updates. In case there is one, select Update Console > Start Update.
Xbox One –
To update your Xbox One console, press the Xbox button on your controller. Next, select Profile & System > Settings > System > Updates. If an update is available, you will see a notification: “Console update available”. Select it to start the update.
Restart the game –
If your console is already up to date with the latest system software and you are still encountering this issue, then try restarting the game. Most trivial issues can be fixed by performing a simple restart, so do one with the game and see if the problem is still there.
Use a different controller/wheel –
Since the problem is mostly controller/wheel-related, players can try using an entirely different controller/wheel to see if they have a defective one. Also, you need to make sure that the latest drivers are installed for the wheel. You need to visit the manufacturer’s website to download the latest drivers and then install them. But for this process, you will need a PC and the wheel connected to it.
Restart both the console and controller –
Just like we suggested restarting the game, do the same with both the console and controller. Like before, this method doesn’t guarantee any results, but still, there’s really no harm in trying it out.
Reinstall game –
If nothing else works, it’s best to reinstall the game. After a fresh installation, the issue might get fixed on its own.
Anyway, we hope you were able to fix the wheel not detecting issue in F1 23 on your Xbox console. For more guides like this, keep checking out DigiStatement.
