Elden Ring: NightReign is finally here, and we hope you’re enjoying it as much as we are. The new roguelike twist to the Elden Ring’s dark atmospheric world makes it more intense and challenging with a lot of replayability. But as you move further in the game, you may start to encounter a few bugs along the way. Since it’s a newly released title, it’s no surprise that some bugs and glitches start popping out randomly. Lately, many players have come across a bug where they’re unable to interact with NPCs in-game. They can interact with everything except NPCs, which seems strange.
Elden Ring: NightReign is a spin-off of the fan-favorite game Elden Ring. It was developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. In NightReign, players can play solo or team up in co-op with friends to progress through challenges and ultimately face a final boss at the end of the day. But many players on Steam have reported facing an “unable to talk to NPC” bug, which has affected their runs and progression. Resolving it ASAP is needed, especially in this game, as progression is tightly linked to some NPC interactions. We’re here to help you out, as we have found some ways to fix it.

It’s best to start with some common fixes that often resolve the issue quickly. Try these first to see if the problem persists:
Restart Your PC and Game
Firstly, close the game and fully restart your PC. This clears temporary glitches or bugs that might be causing the game to not allow interaction with NPCs.
Verify Game Files Integrity
On Steam, open Library, and then right-click on Elden Ring NightReign. After this, select Properties, and then click on the Installed files option. Here, select the Verify integrity of game files option. This will check and fix every corrupted or missing file pertaining to that issue. If file corruption is the reason why this issue is occurring, this workaround should be able to fix it for good.
Still not fixed?
If you’re still facing this issue, a player on Steam has shared a solution that seems to be working for everyone, so it’s worth a try. Follow the given steps to try this workaround:
- Once you encounter this bug, start a single-player run in any of the Nightlords levels.
- Check if you can lock onto any monsters during this run.
- If locking onto monsters works, exit the single-player session.
- Return to the Roundtable Hold area.
- You should now be able to interact with NPCs again.
These workarounds should have solved your problem. If you found this guide helpful, be sure to visit DigiStatement daily for more such tips, guides, and fixes on your favorite games!
