NightReign HDR issue fix

Excited to explore the dark and atmospheric world of Elden Ring’s NightReign in full HDR, but the visual feels a little off or dull? We get it! Players were hyped up for this game since it was announced and were expecting full HDR (High Dynamic Range) to enhance the visuals and immerse themselves in the game’s dark atmosphere. Many players have reported that HDR is either not turning on or not functioning properly after the update. Whether the HDR button has grayed out or just refuses to enable, by the end of this guide, you will have all the information you need to tackle the issue with ease.

Elden Ring: NightReign is a new multiplayer-focused roguelike spin-off of the critically acclaimed 2022 title, Elden Ring. Developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, NightReign continues the studio’s tradition of delivering dark, atmospheric worlds but this time with a roguelike twist focused on multiplayer progression. Well, in the game, HDR support makes the visuals even more gripping and stunning, but that’s what’s spoiling the experience of most players. The issue appears to be occurring on both PC and consoles, which frustrates fans who are trying to fully experience the game’s upgraded visuals. So, how to fix this issue?

Elden Ring NightReign HDR error

Enable HDR in Windows/System

Firstly, make sure HDR is turned on in both your system (Windows or console) and within the game menu. HDR might not trigger if only one of them is enabled.

Restart the Game

After changing HDR settings, make sure to restart the game so changes are properly applied. If the problem still persists, try the next fix.

Lower Refresh Rate

Some displays can’t run HDR at high refresh rates with full 12-bit color. So, it is recommended that you reduce the refresh rate of your monitor and then check if the HDR in Elden Ring NightReign works.

Manually Force HDR via Config File

If changing the in-game and system settings isn’t working, you can also tweak game files to force the HDR to work in-game. Try forcing HDR manually by editing the game’s graphics config file. Here’s how:

  • First, start by navigating to the config file of the game. It can be found here: “C:\Users\…\AppData\Roaming\Nightreign\GraphicsConfig.xml”.
  • Now, open the GraphicsConfig.xml file with Notepad.
  • After this, add the following line, <HDR>true</HDR> inside the <Graphics> section.
  • Once done, save the changes, and then launch the game to check if the issue persists.

Update GPU Drivers

Outdated drivers can cause display problems, hindering full HDR access. On PC, update your graphics drivers by visiting the Nvidia/AMD website. Download the latest drivers and then install them.

Restart Your PC

You may also need to restart your PC in addition to the previous fixes. FromSoftware doesn’t exactly have the smoothest track record with HDR, so maybe a full system restart is the need of the hour.

For now, these are the workarounds that we recommend you try to fix the HDR not working issue in Elden Ring NightReign. If you found this guide helpful, be sure to check out DigiStatement regularly for more game-related guides and tips.
