Fans of the Dragon Ball Z franchise were treated with the return of the Dragon Ball Z games to mainstream media attention with the 2015 release of Dragon Ball Xenoverse. Since then, we have seen two other Dragon Ball game series being launched, but not nearly as many mainline installations to any of the three series as we would have liked. Let’s take a look at what the next Dragon Ball Z game that may be coming out in 2022 might be. Right, let’s get into it.
Xenoverse took a move away from the classical horizontal 2D fighter games that Bandai Namco usually produced for a DBZ game, and fans were delighted by the new mechanics of the game but were left feigning for more. Sure enough, just the next year, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 was released. Fans were ecstatic and many began seeing dreams of a yearly Xenoverse title. Unfortunately, this was not the case, and Xenoverse 2 has been kept barely alive by DLCs and add-ons since then. It was not as though fans were completely deprived of all Dragon Ball gaming content since 2018 saw the release of Dragon Ball FighterZ. This was a return to the orthodox style of fighting games that Bandai Namco was so familiar with, and the game did very well, on the most part due to its improved physics and graphical advancements since the first era of DBZ games. In 2020, Dragon Ball: Karakot was released, and much to the fans’ surprise, Karakot was an absolutely story-driven game. The change was very welcome amongst the fanbase, who were hoping to experience a brand new DBZ story on their gaming setups. It is very likely that Bandai Namco is currently looking at a third installation to the Xenoverse series since this is the one that is long overdue for a sequel.
