If you have been playing games on your PC for a while, you’d know that there are some errors that are game-specific and occur in particular games only. But on the other hand, there are errors that span across various games. Take the crashing issues as an example. You can encounter game crashes in literally any game. Doom The Dark Ages BugSplat Error: How to fix it
Amidst the chaos and thrill Doom: The Dark Ages provides, of course you wouldn’t want to get trapped in a bug-fixing loop. So, try the shared workarounds and get your game running in no time.
Disable iGPU
In the majority of CPUs, there is an integrated GPU that helps in doing various tasks. While this is beneficial for systems that have no dedicated GPUs, they tend to create conflict with systems that do. Similar is the case with the BugSplat error. This usually occurs when you have both the iGPU and dedicated GPU of your system enabled. To fix this error, all you need to do is disable the iGPU. For this, go to Windows Start and search “Device Manager”. Select the first result and then in the Device Manager menu, go to the Display Adapters tab. Here, right-click on the iGPU of your system (something like Intel UHD Graphics) and then select the Disable Driver option. Once confirmed, restart your PC and then launch the game to check whether the same error persists.
Delete the game’s config file
As stated, this issue has been reported to occur only when tweaking the game’s settings. Maybe a settings mismatch is creating all this fuss. So, to rule out this possibility, you can try deleting the config file of the game. To find it, simply go to the C drive and then open the Users folder. Here, enter the folder with your Windows username as its name. Inside it, find the Saved Games folder, and then head inside it. Here, open the id Software folder, then the DOOMTheDarkAges folder, and then the base folder. Inside the base folder, you will find the game’s .ini file. Delete it. Don’t worry; you won’t lose any progress. Once you launch the game, it will automatically create a new .ini file. Now, check whether the same issue persists.
Disable FPSMonitor or other third-party FPS displaying applications
A player was able to fix this issue by simply closing the FPSMonitor application running in the background. Maybe this was creating a conflict resulting in the game crash. So, if you are using applications like MSI Afterburner, FPSMonitor, or such, make sure to disable them before launching the game.
Disable Overclocking/Undervolting
Another reason why this error is occurring on your system can be your overclocked CPU/GPU or undervolted CPU. Customized settings might be the reason why the game is unable to run on your system. So, it is advised that you reset your GPU/CPU to their base clock speeds and default configurations before you launch the game.
Verify Game Files
Corrupted game files can also lead to crashes. So, you can try using Steam’s File Verification check to ensure that there are no corrupted files. To do this, first open Steam, go to Library, and then right-click on Doom: The Dark Ages. After this, select Properties>Installed Files tab>Verify Integrity of Game Files. Once the scan is complete, launch the game to check whether the bugsplat error occurs again.
Reinstall
Finally, if none of the workarounds have been helpful, consider reinstalling the game. A fresh reinstall might fix any lingering issues that were causing the game to crash.
With that said, these are the workarounds that we recommend you try to fix the bugsplat error in Doom: The Dark Ages. We hope that you find this guide informative. If you did, consider visiting DigiStatement regularly for more such interesting reads on all things gaming.
