According to an online poll conducted by Oricon in 2020 for the Japanese public, an unbelievable 97.1% of all respondents “knew of the existence of” the Demon Slayer series, and a study of over 7500 Japanese school students ranked the protagonist of the Demon Slayer series, Tanjiro Kamado as #1 of 10 most admired people in their lives, where their mothers, fathers, and teachers ranked far lower than the teen demon slayer! In this article, we will be taking a look at the newly released story mode trailer for the video game adaptation of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba, called Demon Slayer Hinokami Keppuutan. The game is developed by CyberConnect2, who are legendary in the Japanese video game industry for their .hack series, which featured the intriguing idea of a game within a game set in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game genre. This time, they have taken on a completely different challenge, that of satisfying the extremely nitpicky and demanding manga and anime fans of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba, and as of now, it definitely seems as though they have succeeded. Most fans absolutely love how the game looks, with the art style looking almost identical to the original manga and subsequent anime series.
The game is scheduled for release on the 14th of October, 2021. It will be coming out on Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, a welcome departure from the age-old trend of Japanese games based on world-famous anime and manga series coming out only on the fellow islanders console, Sony’s PlayStation platforms.
The story mode of the game will follow closely the original plotline of the anime and manga, where the main protagonist, teenager Tanjiro Mahado must fight against a horde of demons in order to find his sister, Nezuko, who has been turned into a demon when their parents were slaughtered by demons. Everyone loves a cool dose of a redemption arc in gaming, and that is exactly what we will be getting with Demon Slayer Hinokami Keppuutan.
