With its latest update for PTB, 9.1.0, Dead by Daylight has introduced a new survivor item, i.e., the Fog Vial. In this article, we are going to look into its features and its supposed use. First of all, let’s take a look at what developers have to say about this. According to the post on their official website, the following points were deduced regarding the Fog vial:
- It causes a fog cloud to expand from its point of use that dissipates after a set time. It may be noted that dissipation time varies as per character. For Vigo’s vial, it’s 12 seconds, while for Artisan, it’s 10 seconds.
- Scratch marks do not appear, audio is muffled, and the player’s aura is undetectable.
- It has a set cooldown time that differs from character to character. For example, Vigo’s fog vial takes 60 seconds to recharge, while the apprentice’s fog vial takes 70 seconds.
There are 5 add-ons to the fog vial, which are listed as follows:
- Potent extract: Decreases visibility and sounds within the fog cloud.
- Mushroom formula: Increases maximum fog cloud size by 2 meters.
- Oily sap: Increases fog cloud duration by 2 secs
- Reactive compound: Decreases fog cloud expansion time 1 sec.
- Volcanic stone: Decreases fog vial’s cooldown time by 5 secs.
Dead by Daylight Fog Vial: How to use
The fog vial can be used as any other survivor item. Basically, the player has to equip the item in the loadout before the match. During the trial, you have to locate it on the HUD and press the dedicated button either on the console or PC to use it.
Trouble for killers?
There have been ongoing discussions as to whether the addition of the fog vial as a survivor item will heavily impact killers’ performance. The gaming community seems to be divided in their opinions regarding the addition of a new survivor item. Many players on discussion forums pointed out that this item has technically no downside to its use. It can be recharged without putting in any extra effort and can counter every aura perk/add-on. With the iridescent add-on, many players have compared the effects of fog vial similar to that of void crystals. It may be noted that the void crystal was a limited item that could be obtained during the Haunted by Daylight 2024 event. This item acted to block visibility, suppressed scratch marks even after leaving the area and granted invisibility to its user. However, it still had a downside in that it could not be brought back once used.
The fog vial with its rechargeable feature has removed this obstruction in use and might prove to be of major advantage. Some players have rightfully pointed out that this single item that was added for survivor use only comes after a long wait. Before this, survivors were nearly at a loss due to a lack of more usable items, while new killers kept coming every year.
Whatever the case, it’s still in the public test build phase and the effects can be easily adjusted after official release. Hopefully, Behavior Interactive will take note of all the ongoing speculations and make a well-balanced decision. For future updates regarding this and other topics, keep visiting DigiStatement.
