Developed and published by indie video game development studio MINTROCKET, Dave the Diver is a role-playing adventure game with elements of management sprinkled in between. Players play as the overweight diver, Dave, who collects fish while also managing a sushi restaurant. The game has been under Steam’s Early Access program since October 27, 2022. And, after a lot of fixes and gameplay improvements, it finally got its v1.0 launch on June 28, 2023. Fans are already praising it, with most of the attention going toward its art style, fantastic OST, and easy-to-access gameplay. All in all, it’s another indie hit of 2023. The game is only available for PC right now, although the developers have expressed interest in porting it over to consoles. Dave the Diver Giant Squid: How to Beat It
The Giant Squid is the first boss that players get to encounter in Dave the Diver. You will be able to deal with the boss during the “The Leas-Chan Rescue” quest. The Giant Squid can be found resting in a large room. You don’t have to worry about fighting the entire body of the Squid since it lies immobile and will only use its tentacles or throw ink at you to attack you. The game also provides you with the direction of those tentacle attacks by focusing on the cloud of sand gathering near the room walls.
To defeat this boss, you need to use a ranged weapon (Harpoon Gun), as getting too close to it can be a dangerous move. Start by evading the tentacle attacks to the best of your abilities and using the Harpoon Gun to shoot at its large eye. Do note that if your aim is perfect and the gun comes in contact with the Squid’s eye, it will start spewing black ink, which will push you back down the corridor. Follow the simple strategy of dodging and shooting at the eye. Attack the eye a total of three to five times, and the Gaint Squid will be defeated.
Remember to minimize any kind of damage, as it depletes your O2 meter quite quickly. You should stock up on oxygen and ammo before the boss fight; however, you can also find some at the entrance of the corridor.
