So what is Counter Strike: Global Offensive, or CS:GO? CS:GO is an online multiplayer first-person shooter game. The game has been a pillar of the first-person shooter games on the PC platform and is widely considered as a sort of a predecessor to several games that are in the market today. These include the famous multiplayer, Valorant.

The gameplay mechanism is simple. Players are divided into teams of 5 and left around on opposing sides of a map. The players are divided into 2 player types, terrorists and counter-terrorists. While each of these types has its own unique set of guns, most of the weapons are common for both. There are 2 kinds of maps, a bomb map, and a hostage map. You are allotted an amount of money after each round, which you can capitalize on by killing people or completing tasks, like defusing or planting bombs.

While the game is free to play, this wasn’t always the case. The transition is credited to the trend of games moving to the games as a service model. CS:GO has had a flourishing market for skins and other in-game items, but most of these transactions and trades happen outside of the Steam market.
Now, players that join have the option to buy Prime, which enables them to play against players that have purchased the same or bought the game before its transition to a free-to-play game. Prime is a way to ensure players play against others who are less likely to be hackers and the like.

On 3 June, CS:GO released a blog post that detailed the release of a new unranked matchmaking mode. Players can now play Unranked matchmaking, which, while pitting them against similar skill groups, will not earn them any skill group. Matchmaking will not tamper with your original skill group either, so feel free to practice a bit before getting into the big leagues!
