In this article, we will go over the method of changing your microphone while playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO). If you are here, you must already realize that under the in-game settings and in the Audio tab, the only option available to users is to actually change their output device, but to their input device, or microphone. This setting isn’t found where you would think it would be. You do not even need to launch Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Simply open up your Steam application, and click on the Friends and Chat tab. Here, click on the gear icon which signifies settings. On this page, you will want to navigate to the Voice tab. Here, there are several things you can do. The first thing is to run a microphone test to ensure its functionality. The second option is what we are looking for. Use the drop-down menu under Voice Input Device in order to change your microphone for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. All your possible inputs will be listed here, simply select the one you want to use. You can also change your output device from this window. The options for voice transgression can also be tweaked on this page. Your options are Open Microphone, Push to Talk, and Push to Mute. Personally, I think Push to Talk is the optimal choice for gaming. On this settings page, you can also assign a hotkey for the mute toggle. It isn’t the most useful when playing a game like CS: GO, where you hardly have enough time to input a hotkey every time you want to speak to your teammates. Lastly, you can toggle the short sound played when your microphone is toggled. I know some people may find this sound annoying, so this is the way you can disable it.
