If you enjoy playing fighting games, you need to start gearing up for 2XKO by Riot Games. The game is set to release in 2025. However, it has been made available for at-home playtesting since August 2024. At first glance, the game appears to be promising, with players really enjoying what it has to offer. The only drawback, however, is that the game isn’t really polished yet, which leads to certain technical and performance issues. One such problem in 2XKO is that the controllers don’t seem to work in the game. For players who enjoy playing their favorite titles using controllers, this has become a significant issue. In this guide, we’ve shared all the workarounds you can try if your controller isn’t working in 2XKO. So, continue reading this till the end to find out!
2XKO is, in a way, inspired by another one of Riot Games’ popular titles, League of Legends. Gameplay-wise, it takes its inspiration from Rising Thunder. In fact, in the game, players will join a 2v2 battle featuring champions from League of Legends. If that prospect excites you, then you certainly need to try this game out. And if you already did but faced the issue with your controller not working in 2XKO, you’re at the right place. So, without further ado, let’s find out how to fix this problem in the game.
Controller Not Working in 2XKO: How to Fix?
The issue with controllers has troubled numerous 2XKO players, and unfortunately, we don’t have any official update on this yet. However, players have found several workarounds that have been effective in fixing this problem. We have listed them here:
Ensure That the Game Recognizes Your Controller
For the controller to work while you’re playing 2XKO, the game has to recognize the device first. For this, launch the game and open the Settings menu. Then, visit the Controls or Input settings. Here, you can check if the game is reading your controller. If the game fails to read your controller, try and ensure that you’ve plugged it in properly. If it’s a wireless controller, check that you’ve paired it with your PC. Then, check if the controller works. If not, try using a different USB port and see if that works. Also, ensure that the controller is actually compatible with the game.
Change Controller Mapping
- Once again, open the game settings and go to Controller Mapping.
- Select Pad A and see if the controller works.
- If the issue persists, select Pad B next and test it.
Ensure Steam Isn’t Open
Some players have faced certain issues with their controllers in 2XKO when Steam was running in the background. Ensure that you’ve closed Steam before you run 2XKO to prevent such issues. Open your Task Manager by pressing the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys together. Go to the Processes tab, and under Background Processes, try and locate Steam. Right-click on the process and choose End task. Then, go back to 2XKO and see if the controller works.
Disable Other Peripherals
If you have other devices connected to your PC, unplug them when you play 2XKO. Sometimes, these external devices can interfere with your controller, stopping it from working properly. Disable these peripherals and see if the controller then works.
Update Controller Drivers
- Bring up the Quick Link Menu by pressing the Windows + X keys together.
- Go to Device Manager.
- Open Sound, Video, and Game Controllers.
- Locate your controller and right-click on it.
- Select Update Driver.
- Click on “Search automatically for drivers“.
- Let the download complete, and then run 2XKO.
- See if the controller now works.
Use Third-Party Controller Mapping Tools
If the controller still doesn’t work, then you can use third-party tools. For example, you can use DS4Windows to emulate your PlayStation controller.
Run the Game as an Administrator
Players have fixed the controller issue in 2XKO by running the game as administrator. First, go to Configuration and open Bluetooth and Devices. Go to Devices and check if you have the wireless controller listed there. Then, go to your Desktop and right-click on the Riot client. Go to Properties and open the Compatibility tab. Checkmark the box corresponding to the “Run this program as an administrator” option. Also, checkmark “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and choose Windows 8 from the drop-down menu. Select Apply and then hit OK to save your changes. Then, go back and run the game again. See if the issue persists.
Run the Game in Steam Big Picture Mode
Reddit user Right_Butterscotch68 shared that running the game in Steam Big Picture mode solved the controller issue for them. First, turn off your PC and restart it after a few seconds. Once it boots up, go to Steam and open your Library tab. Then, click on “Add a Game” at the bottom of your screen. Select “Add a Non-Steam Game“. Next, click on Browse and locate the installation directory for the Riot Launcher. Select the executable file for the client and click on Open. Once added, click on “Add Selected Programs“. This will add Riot Launcher to Steam as a non-Steam game. Then, go back to Steam and click on the Big Picture icon from the top right corner of your screen. Now, you’ll have entered Steam Big Picture mode. Then, run the Riot Launcher in Big Picture mode and you can play the game. If the controls are still bugged for you, go to Settings > Controller Mapping, click on Custom, and edit the buttons as per your preference. Once done, run the game and see if the controller works.
Cap the Frame Rate at 60 FPS
Multiple players have shared that capping the frame rate in 2XKO at 60 FPS fixed the controller not working issue in the game. As unusual as it sounds, you can try this and see if it works for you.
Close Razer Synapse
Reddit user Aviixii shared that they were having trouble using their controller in 2XKO because of Razer Synapse. Closing Razer Synapse completely fixed the issue for them. Try this out and see if it works for you.
Disable DirectX and Enable Raw Input
Reddit user Andromedra-Z shared that they fixed the issue by disabling DirectX and enabling Raw Input from the Advanced Options menu in the in-game settings. Try this out and see if it works. If it doesn’t, try binding your controller buttons in Custom settings and see if that fixes the issue.
Use a Different Controller
If your controller still doesn’t work in the game, try using a different controller if available. This is because there’s a high chance that the controller you’re using has a certain defect that’s causing this issue.
