Cities Skylines 2 City not growing: How to fix it?

Cities: Skylines 2 was released back on October 24, 2023, and immediately became one of the most disappointing releases of the year. The number of bugs and optimization issues players had to suffer through was just abhorrent. However, the developers at Colossal Order have been working hard to fix all those issues and so far, they have fixed a lot of them. Unfortunately, it seems like many players are currently facing a problem with their cities’ growth.

This is more of a gameplay issue than a technical one. And, anything from taxes to pollution can be a cause behind your city’s stunted growth. Nevertheless, we are going to help you fix that. So, continue reading to find out all possible fixes for this issue.

Players will have to make do with the following workarounds to fix this issue. So, follow these and find out which ones are of help to you.

Stop Overzoning –

Overzoning leads to a halt in city growth. Take a look at your RCI meter at regular intervals, and use the information provided to make decisions accordingly. However, if you aren’t overzoning, then the issue lies somewhere else.

Keep taxes low –

One of the best ways to increase growth in your city is to simply keep the taxes low. So, first, check just how much you are taxing your city by using the Money menu. If it’s particularly high, then that must be the reason why you aren’t seeing any growth in your city. Lower the taxes however much you are comfortable with and wait for a while to see the results.

Check pollution level –

Your pollution level also affects things like city growth. If there’s too much pollution, residents will start leaving your city, which then results in a halt to city growth. So, whenever you are establishing zones, make sure that Industrial and Residential zones are in separate areas.

Use non-polluting power plants –

This one is an extension of the previous workaround. Power is a major factor in generating pollution. And as such, a great way to avoid that is to use non-polluting power plants. Build Wind Turbines, Geothermal Power Plants, Solar Power Plants, and the like whenever possible. However, do know that these produce less power compared to the general ones. So, you will have to manage your city around that.

Add parks –

Believe it or not, parks help a ton in ensuring growth. Your pops aren’t just mindless workers. They need entertainment too, and Parks are a major source of that. If your population isn’t getting any kind of entertainment, you will soon see an exodus of people, which will directly affect growth. So, if there aren’t any parks in your city, start building some.

Listen to public radio –

The radio is a great source of information on what your population needs. If you’ve been ignoring it so far, start listening to it intently. This way, you always know what’s in demand, and you can satisfy that demand to encourage growth in your city.

Essentially, the growth of your city depends on how happy and satisfied your pops are. Additionally, if you want to know about fixing the electrical bottleneck issue in the game, check out this guide. And as always, keep following DigiStatement for more guides like this.
