We have seen the influence of Japan in various ways. Whether it be a product of Sony, the films of Akira Kurosawa or perhaps a car like Honda, Japan never ceases to amaze us. Henceforth, the country has got a booming popular culture, where its mangas and animes play a huge role. Often, such cultural influence can help in bringing other cultures close. India and Japan have shared a good bond, especially when it comes to pop culture. We would see the impact of Japanese goods, Japanese food, and even Japanese shows. The youngsters tend to get influenced by the soft culture of Japan. But on the other side, we have made an impact too! What if we tell you that there’s a show based on Kabaddi? (Yes! Our sport Kabaddi.)

Hajime Musashino’s manga series Burning Kabaddi is about kabaddi in Japan. Since July 2015, it has been serialized on Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday website and MangaONE app, and seventeen tankobon volumes have been published. TMS Entertainment’s anime television series adaption premiered on April 3, 2021.

On July 6, 2020, an anime television series adaption was announced. The series is directed by Kazuya Ichikawa and written by Yuko Kakihara and produced by TMS Entertainment. The characters are designed by Mari Takada, while the music is composed by Ken Ito. Animation collaboration is credited to DOMERICA. On April 3, 2021, the series aired on TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, TV Aichi, and AT-X. Outside of Asia, Crunchyroll has licensed the series.

In Southeast Asia, Medialink has licensed the series and is broadcasting it on its associated platforms. Fans of anime in India and its neighboring countries have expressed a wish for the anime to be published in their respective regions because it is the only anime based on an Indian subcontinent sport. However, there are no plans to allow anyone in the Indian subcontinent to legally watch the anime.

A game like Kabaddi can provide a good dose of natural adrenaline. It would be no surprise to see a competitive Kabaddi game brought along with a range of anime players. Although there is no official statement from the series makers about the game, we can anticipate and henceforth look forward to a game version, coming by the year 2022-2024. This game can have a good potential to succeed in the Indian subcontinent as well.
