Borderlands 4 released today, except for Nintendo Switch 2, the official date for which is October 3. Critics praised its gunplay and graphics while criticizing the performance issues on PC. Some new features include the absence of loading screens while exploring new areas, new vehicles, and traversal tools, etc. As with previous titles, it is highly anticipated that the game will have some quality third-party mods. For that purpose, we have compiled an installation guide for the Borderlands 4 mod and briefed you about the current scenario.
Borderlands 4: How to install mods?
Most of the usable mods are currently available on NexusMods. You need to download the mod of your choice and unzip it to get the mod files. A mod manager for this game would ease the task; however, there isn’t one at the moment. Before proceeding to install the Borderlands 4 mod, you should back up your game files. You can follow the paths given below to locate them, or if you are using Steam, you can follow these steps:
- Open Steam Library
- Then Right-click on Borderlands 4 and select Properties.
- Go to the Installed Files tab

Copy the entire Borderlands 4 folder to another location
For placing the mod files, different mods will have varying requirements. For example, some mods might need to be placed in the config folder while others may be placed in the root of the game folder.
This is a common path to follow for locating the game files: ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\steamapps\common\Borderlands 4\OakGame\Content\Paks.
In case you have installed your game elsewhere, or it’s not on Steam, you might need to locate it yourself.
The config folder can be located as: “C:\Users\’Username’\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 4\Saved\Config\Windows”.
Only the location and placement of files will differ; the rest of the process is the same for every Borderlands 4 mod. Therefore, you need to unzip the downloaded file and place its content as directed on the website.
