Out of so many roguelikes these days, The Binding of Isaac has continued to grow and amass a loyal following. Originally released back in 2011, the game is considered to be one of the few roguelikes that reinvigorated interest in the genre. Since its original release, it has also gotten a remake in the form of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. But many fans seem to love the original too, and as such, they have also tried playing the game on the Steam Deck. However, it seems like the game has a pretty major crashing issue.
Unlike The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, this one hasn’t been Steam Deck verified. Despite that, TBoI has a Playable status. And while that’s good enough for many, the crashing issue is certainly an annoying thing to deal with. However, you don’t have to worry much about it. Issues like this one are fixable. So, without much further ado, continue reading to find out the workarounds for this.
Binding of Isaac crashing on Steam Deck: How to fix it?
Since we don’t have any official fix for this issue, you will have to make use of the following workarounds. Try these and find out if any of them result in helping you.
Restart –
First of all, we recommend that you restart the game on your Deck. Following that, you can restart your Deck too if you encounter a crash once again. This is a pretty common way to fix a ton of issues, so start with it. If the issue persists, you can switch to another workaround.
Update –
For those who haven’t updated either the Deck or the game, do so ASAP. It’s a surefire way to get rid of a lot of bugs and issues, so go ahead and do this. However, if even this method is not able to entirely make the issue go away, check out the next method.
Switch to another Proton version –
Some players had major success when switching to another Proton version. Now the most recommended versions happen to be Proton 7.0, Proton 7.0-6, and Proton 8.0. As such, we suggest you try experimenting with the various Proton versions to see if you encounter the issue once again.
Get rid of mods –
Many players have reported that downloading some specific mods can cause startup issues and crashes in the game. So, if you have mods installed, try finding out which one’s causing the crash and removing it. Don’t forget to update your mods too.
Reinstall –
If the issue continues to persist, try reinstalling the game. A fresh installation might be all you need to get rid of this issue.
This is all you need to fix this issue. Additionally, if you are encountering the same issue in Wizard101 on your Steam Deck, check out this guide. Well, for more guides like this, keep following DigiStatement. Also read: Pioneers of Pagonia PvP Mode & Steam Deck Support: Are they available?
