Developer FromSoftware continues on with its streak of releasing amazing games and the most recent one to solidify that fact was 2023’s Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon. Serving as the sequel to 2012’s Armored Core V, the game was released for all major platforms except for the Nintendo Switch. While the game is certainly great to play on all the other platforms, many have had more fun playing it on the go through the Steam Deck. However, it seems like players had an issue with the controller not working properly.
An issue like this could be due to a myriad of reasons. From proton compatibility to the game being outdated, there are a good number of causes for this issue. So, can this issue be fixed? Well, continue reading to find out all about that.
Armored Core 6 Steam Deck controller not working: How to fix it?
Use official controller scheme –
This particular workaround comes thanks to u/RoastCabose. Essentially, what you need to do is head to the Steam input scheme on the Steam Deck and select your current layout. Next, you will see four main tabs: Recommended, Your Layouts, Templates, and Community Layouts. Switch to the Recommended tab and select “Official Layout for Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon – Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon Official Settings”. You will see that there are a lot of layouts with the same name. The one you need to choose is the Steam Deck one, which can be identified by the Steam Deck icon to the right. Now, head back to the Steam input scheme screen and edit the layout from there.
Switch to Desktop Mode –
For some players, running the game in Desktop Mode was what helped them fix this issue, so you can give this a try. Change from Gaming Mode to Desktop Mode and then launch the game. If the issue gets resolved, enjoy ACVI but if it doesn’t, the next workaround might be of help.
Change to another template –
Players can also try changing the controller template and see if that helps. Basically, you need to first launch the game, press the Steam button on the Deck, and select Controller Settings. Here, tap on the Templates menu, and choose the Keyboard (WASD) and Mouse layout. Using this layout, you can emulate the keyboard and mouse inputs using your controller. Don’t forget to customize the keybinds.
Update –
A common fix for issues like this is to simply update the game and the Deck, provided there’s an update available in the first place. So, first, check if there’s an update available for the Deck and the game. If there’s one, download and install it. Once that’s done, launch the game and see if the issue continues.
Force Reboot the Deck –
Force rebooting the Deck might also help with this issue, so we suggest trying it once. Basically, all you need to do is hold down the Deck’s power button for ten seconds and it will automatically power off. Wait a few minutes and it will automatically power back on later on.
Change Proton versions –
Players can also try changing Proton versions since this seems to be another common fix for issues like this one. Try the various Proton versions and see if any of them are of help.
Reinstall –
If none of the aforementioned workarounds are of help to you, we suggest that you reinstall the game. Something like this has a good chance of working, so give it a try. However, if even this doesn’t help, we recommend contacting support.
And that’s all you need to fix this issue. Additionally, if you want to know how to deal with a similar issue in Brawlhalla, take a look at this guide. Lastly, for more such content, keep following DigiStatement. Also read: Cassette Beasts Steam Deck controller not working: How to fix it?
