Earlier in the month, the sociology classes at the Wake Forest University were canceled after 7 members from the department had received derogatory emails. These emails called in for a nationwide purge of the non-white population & included anti-Semitic, anti-gay, and racist slurs.
Joseph Soares, the sociology professor and department chairman at the same university mentioned that all the 7 department members felt that they were the targets. He also said that he was outraged, disgusted, as well as fearful for his community.
Five more offensive emails had been sent out the following morning to the University’s Department of Women’s, Sexuality, and Gender Studies, along with other departments which included the LGBTQ Center, the Office of Diversity & Inclusion, as well as the Intercultural Center.
