Xbox : HDMI cable

An HDMI cable is important to an Xbox as it is used to connect to whichever display you’re using, an individual monitor or a massive television screen. At times these parts can begin to falter and an HDMI cable having issues is not a new story. Reasons for an HDMI cable not working can be varied and so can the solutions, we will give you some reasons and their solutions, some you can do yourself while others you will need Microsoft support.

If the HDMI cable is not working, check the cable for any damage and even the port where it fits into, if you have an extra HDMI cable or can borrow one then it would be perfect since you’ll be able to test whether its just a cable problem or a problem with the ports or Xbox.

If your cable is damaged, the port is damaged or even the secondary HDMI cable doesn’t seem to work then you will need to contact Microsoft support as it could be something to do with your Xbox internally.

However, before you do that, if you have ever connected your Xbox series X to a monitor with different monitor settings, for instance, a higher refresh rate monitor than your usual one, then there is a possibility that your settings were on manual mode rather than auto-detect and your Xbox may not be able to render the refresh rate of your monitor now and will need to be switched back.

  • press and hold the sync button and the disc tray button together then hit the power button, once hit the power button, continue holding the sync and the disc tray button for another 10-15 seconds
  • This should hard-reset your Xbox

According to a user on Reddit u/Zoolx who helped the community with the solution above, also stated that this issue could also occur due to the cache not clearing properly.

Once done, this should solve your issue, if it doesn’t then do contact Microsoft support as it may be some internal damage.
