Beyond Good and Evil 2 was first announced at E3 2017, but there has not been any official release window or target platforms revealed for the game. Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been confirmed to be a prequel to 2003’s Beyond Good and Evil, set at least one generation before it. In this article, we will be taking a look at the developmental hell that Beyond Good and Evil has been in since at least 2007, and when it could finally be seeing the light of day. Right, let’s get into it.

Michel Ancel, renowned for his development of the Rayman Legends and associated franchises, is known to be involved in the development of the game at Ubisoft Montepellier. In a 2008 interview with French gaming magazine Jeuxvideo, Ancel stated that Beyond Good and Evil 2 had been in pre-production for at least a year, but Ubisoft was yet to approve it. This reluctance stems from the fact the 2003 Beyond Good and Evil game was not a commercial success. No doubt, it gained a cult following who continue to play the game in 2021, but there was simply not enough incentive at the time for Ubisoft to approve the prequel. The first two trailers for the second Beyond Good and Evil game were released all the way back in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

After these trailers, things on the official end went absolutely quiet, while conflicting rumors began surfacing online, stating Ancel had left Ubisoft Montpellier, that the game was on hold, and so on and so forth. Finally, in 2016, Ancel confirmed that work on the game had been put aside to work on 2013’s Rayman Legends and its support.

By the time E3 2017 rolled around, Ancel and Ubisoft had taken a different direction and decided to make the second game a prequel, meaning the two prior trailers were now a completely different game that was cancelled.

While the release platforms for Beyond Good and Evil 2 are not yet clear, it is almost surely coming to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows.

While there has not been any news about the potential release of the game, considering the years and years we have had to wait, we may be getting the game later this year or in early 2022.

We hope you enjoyed this coverage of Beyond Good and Evil 2. Make sure to check out our other articles on Dead or Alive 7, Control 2, and the various Fortnite crossovers.
