F1 2021 was the first game that was released under the banner of EA Sports after they acquired the developers of the official Formula One and Formula 2 game, Codemasters. It featured the much-anticipated story mode called Braking Point, which included several different fictional drivers from previous instalments to the game. F1 2021 was widely received well by the fanbase, and Codemasters and EA are undoubtedly hard at work developing and preparing post-production for next year’s game, F1 2022.
Codemasters were one of the few game developers out there who actually managed to get through the disruptions caused by the covid-19 pandemic without too many delays with their yearly titles of the F1 franchise. While the games usually came out within June, July, or August of the year that was titled, but with F1 2020, the game was only pushed back to the second week of July. This is quite an unnoticeable delay when compared to the extent of disturbances and employee shortages that the gaming industry faced due to these unprecedented times.
Seeing as the trailer for the new F1 game is usually released toward the beginning of the title year of the game, we can expect to see a trailer for F1 2022 sometime at the start of 2022. The game itself should be coming out, as usual, in July of 2022.
Of course, when talking about F1 2022, it must be kept in mind that EA only acquired Codemasters a few weeks before the scheduled release of F1 2021, meaning they may not have been able to impose the changes they would have liked for this game.
If indeed EA has new plans for this franchise, they would really only be seen starting from F1 2022. As such, the release window, trailers sequence and more could be modified as EA looks to mould the game into the same trend that they follow with their other yearly release titles. This makes the release window a lot more unpredictable, and we may have to wait for an official confirmation before we can be absolutely sure of anything.
