Nintendo eShop not available error

A game card is essential for the smooth execution of video games in the Nintendo Switch. It has become a common issue with consoles unable to read the game card. This article will discuss the various scenarios and the possible fixes for the Switch game card slot error.

The issue surfaces in the form of two scenarios –

  • Game card inserted but software unable to start
  • Nothing is inserted in the Game card slot

In this article, we are going to discuss the second scenario.

The error message that is displayed to the users is – “The game card could not be read”

Game card slot error – Identify and fix

This error may be due to the game card or the game card slot. To identify the cause, follow the methods mentioned below.

1. Re-insert the Game card

Occasionally, the card can be set loose in the slot. Power down your console. Now, remove the card from the slot. This will ensure that there is no power surge to damage the card while removing it.

Take a clean piece of cloth. Avoid cotton fabric or rough towels. Carefully clean the gold contacts to remove dust. Once done, reinsert the card and switch on the console. Check whether the error persists.

2. Use a different card

This process is your last resort to check whether the game card is at fault or not. Replace the existing game card with a new one. Power up your console to see the error status. If the error no longer exists, then throw away the previous faulty game card.

You should also check whether the game card is compatible with Nintendo Switch. Sometimes, fake cards also cause this error. Always ensure that you are buying an authentic game card supported by Nintendo.

3. Game card Slot error

If you notice that the above methods failed to resolve the issue, then it is most likely that the slot is damaged. You have no other option to fix the slot on your own. Book an online repair service with Nintendo.

The solutions mentioned above will help you to determine the exact cause before sending it for repair. Luckily, if you see that the game card is at fault and not the actual slot, then you can replace it for a few dollars. The repair cost for the game card slot error is inevitably more.
