Star Wars Battlefront II (2) Error Code 201: How to fix it

Star Wars Battlefront II has made a big comeback since its bumpy launch, evolving into a beloved multiplayer shooter that immerses players in the epic Star Wars universe. It’s a popular online shooter that really puts you into the epic Star Wars universe. Right now, the game is seeing a huge jump in player numbers, thanks to an amazing 90% discount on Steam (just $3.99 for a short time, ending June 26, 2025). But with more players comes more reports of errors and issues. Lately, many players have been seeing Error Code 201 in the game. If you too are encountering the same issue, consider reading this guide, as we have shared some workarounds to help you fix it for good.

Error Code 201 in Star Wars Battlefront II typically appears when the game client fails to connect to EA servers, causing disconnection from a match, a freeze followed by a kick to the main menu, or an inability to join games. This can happen due to unstable internet, server outages, account login issues, or temporary connection blocks from your network provider. While there’s no guaranteed fix for everyone, many players have found success with one or a combination of the following methods. We have mentioned all the effective ones below.

Restart Your Network & System

The basic yet effective step. Completely power down your PC or console. Unplug your router and modem from power for at least 60 seconds. After plugging them back in, restart your PC/console and launch Battlefront II. This can clear temporary network issues and re-establish a fresh connection.

Toggle Network Connection (For PlayStation Users)

This is a commonly reported workaround for PS4/PS5 users, even shared on EA forums, which has resolved the issue for most of the players. For this workaround, follow these steps:

  • From the main PlayStation menu, go to Settings > Network.
  • Toggle “Connect to the Internet” to OFF.
  • Go back into Battlefront II.
  • Go back to PlayStation Settings > Network and toggle “Connect to the Internet” to ON.
  • Return to Battlefront II and try to reconnect to the game’s servers (often by pressing R3 on the main menu).
  • This forces the game to re-establish its network link.

Use a Wired (Ethernet) Connection

If you’re currently playing on Wi-Fi, switch to a direct Ethernet cable connection to your router/modem. Wi-Fi can be prone to interference and latency spikes that Battlefront II seems particularly sensitive to.

Try a Different DNS Server

Changing your DNS might also come in handy in such situations. Consider trying a different public DNS server like Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1). To change DNS settings, follow these steps:

  • Go to Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings.
  • Right-click your active connection (Ethernet or Wi-Fi) -> Properties.
  • Select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” -> Properties.
  • Select “Use the following DNS server addresses” and enter the public DNS server addresses.

By trying these workarounds, you can fix Error Code 201 and get back in the game Star Wars Battlefront II. That said, if you found this guide helpful, we cover gaming-related guides and fixes daily on DigiStatement, so make sure to visit us regularly.
