With the full release of SCUM, many old players along with new players are hopping back into the game to try out the content that the game has to offer. And SCUM did stand on their expectations but not for all. We are saying this because the lockpicking bug is still present in-game. Yes, this isn’t any new bug found recently by players, but there have been numerous reports suggesting many players have faced the issue even in the game’s early access phase. Strangely, this bug has slipped past the quality checks and is now occurring in the full release too. Anyway, in this guide, we have shared all the details regarding what this bug is along with a few workarounds that should help you fix the issue.
SCUM is a hardcore survival game that pushes players to their limits on a sprawling, dangerous island. Beyond basic survival, mastering various skills—from crafting to combat—is essential for thriving. Among crucial skills, lockpicking is one that helps players access valuable loot. But recently, many players, especially those playing the game’s single-player mode, have reported a “lockpicking bug” where they are unable to lockpick certain lockers. Players have even tried unlocking multiple times, making no difference. Continue reading for workarounds or fixes for this issue.

Relogging
Many players have suggested that a quick relog (force back to menu and continue) can fix this desync issue, especially on multiplayer servers. If the issue occurs in the single-player mode, this might not work, so you can try the next methods.
Changing Tools
Some users have reported that by switching to a different screwdriver or lockpick, like switching from a yellow to a red screwdriver, it fixed the issue for them. Though this isn’t a consistent solution, we suggest you give it a try.
Restart Your Game and PC
Sometimes, a simple full restart of both the game and your PC can refresh the client connection and resolve temporary issues. Just launch the game again after the restart.
Verify Game Files
Corrupted local files can cause strange bugs. Verifying the integrity of game files through Steam is always a good first step for any in-game issues. Just follow these steps: Open Steam. Go to Library, right-click on SCUM -> Properties -> Installed Files -> Verify integrity of game files.
Creating a New Character
This could be the last resort to fix this issue. While extreme, a few players found that starting a new character resolved persistent lockpicking issues for them. This is obviously not ideal, as you will lose all the progress you have with your character.
Trying all these workarounds should give you a better shot at picking the lock to unlock it successfully. That being said, we hope you found this guide informative. Make sure to visit DigiStatement for more such gaming-related guides and fixes daily.
