Getsockopt Minecraft Error

Despite being one of the most popular games of all time, Minecraft continues to encounter certain errors that are really frustrating for players. These errors have made the experience of many quite troublesome. We’ve previously discussed how to fix such errors, like the error code c-0010 in Minecraft. Well, another issue that has been troubling the fans recently in the game is the Getsockopt error. Since you’re here, we can assume that you’re also facing this particular error in Minecraft. In this guide, we’ve shared all the details on how to fix the Getsockopt error in Minecraft. So, continue reading till the end to find out the potential fixes for the issue.

Multiple players have faced this Getsockopt error in the game, especially while trying to join a LAN server. In fact, players often don’t even get to see the created world, and instead, receive the Getsockopt error. So, what exactly is this error and what can you do to fix it? You can find all that out in this guide. So, without further ado, let’s get to it.

Getsockopt Minecraft Error: How to Fix?

Getsockopt Minecraft Error

As we already explained, the Getsockopt error typically occurs in the game when players try to play multiplayer using a LAN connection. While this seems to be a connection issue, it’s highly likely that the Getsockopt error is being triggered because of a Java executable function. So, how do you actually fix it? Well, try these workarounds:

Ensure the Game is Updated

If you get the error while trying to join a LAN server, you need to ensure that you and your friends are using the updated version of the game. You also have to ensure that you’re properly connected to the LAN server; if you fail, you might receive the Getsockopt error.

Allow Java Platform SE Binaries through Windows Firewall

  • Type Control Panel in your Windows Search Box and open the first option.
  • Go to System & Settings.
  • Open Windows Defender Firewall.
  • Click on the option that says “Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall“.
  • Click on Change settings, and select Allow another app.
  • Here, checkmark both the Public and Private settings for all the “Java Platform SE Binary” programs.
  • Run the game and see if it works.

Exclude Minecraft from Windows Defender

If you’re using Windows 10, the previous fix might not work for you. In that case, try this out:

  • Click on Start and go to Windows Settings.
  • Select Update & Security and open Windows Security.
  • Go to Virus & Threat Protection.
  • Select Manage Settings.
  • Click on “Add an Exclusion“.
  • Click on Browse and access the Minecraft installation folder.
  • Under this folder, open the Runtime folder. Then, sort the folders inside by date and open the latest folder.
  • Select the bin folder here and click on the Javaw.exe file.
  • This should add the Javaw file to the exclusion list. Make sure that your friend follows the same to prevent the Getsockopt error.

Edit the World

For Minecraft player Murkythespy, this error was a result of the server being half-crashed. They solved the issue by editing the server world and then reverting it back. Try this out and see if it works for you.

Ensure that You’re Using the Right IP Address and the Right Port

When the host starts a LAN world, they’ll receive a number like 123.456.7.89:12345. The part before the “:” is the IP address and the latter part is the port. Ensure that when you connect to the LAN, you’re using the same IP address and port. This should help you fix the Getsockopt error in the game.

Make the Connection Private

Minecraft player Joeyak10 said that they fixed the issue by changing their WiFi connection to private. Open the Properties menu for the WiFi connection you’re using, and change it to Private. Check if it works for you.

Disconnect and Reconnect to the Server

If you’re facing the Getsockopt error, another thing that you can try is disconnecting from the LAN server and then reconnecting again. Minecraft player Dpsandheals said that they waited for around 10 minutes before reconnecting with the server and it worked for them.

Reinstall Minecraft

Finally, if nothing has worked so far for you, you need to reinstall Minecraft and see if that works. A fresh reinstall should allow you to fix the issue and enjoy the LAN multiplayer once again.

Well, that’s all that you can try if you’re facing the Getsockopt Minecraft error. Hopefully, you were able to fix the issue with the help of our guide. If you found this guide insightful and informative, keep visiting DigiStatement for more such gaming content and information!
