Guilty Gear Strive Slow Motion Issue

The Guilty Gear series is one of the finest works from Arc System Works. For players who enjoy fighting games, this series is one of the first names that pops out. The developers did a particularly good job with Guilty Gear Strive, which is, perhaps, the most popular title in the series. However, despite its popularity, the game often encounters certain issues that trouble players. Recently, players have been facing one peculiar issue in the game where the visuals are playing in slow motion. This is particularly true when players are joining a fight. If you’re facing the slow-motion issue in Guilty Gear Strive, your search for a fix is over. Here, in this guide, we have shared a few workarounds to fix this problem in the game. So, continue reading.

The slow-motion issue is a unique problem in Guilty Gear games. It often happens, even with only one player, when they compete with each other. Steam user Jin explained the problem quite well on the Steam Discussion forum for Guilty Gear Strive. What they claimed is that while trying to play against a friend, the game is running in slow motion for them. Their friend, on the other hand, isn’t experiencing this problem. This is factoring in the fact that both of them were on 60 FPS and around 80 ping. So what exactly causes this slow-motion issue in Guilty Gear Strive? What can you do to actually fix this problem? Let’s find out!

Guilty Gear Strive Slow Motion Issue: How to Fix?

Guilty Gear Strive Slow Motion Issue

Players are having a hard time pinpointing what is causing the slow-motion issue in the game. However, Steam user SHOKK had something to share regarding the actual trigger for the problem. In a thread started by Steam user Encleaver, they explained that if you’re facing this issue, then the problem could be at your opponent’s end. If the connection between the two players is weak, then it can result in issues like this.

SHOKK also highlighted that the issue can be triggered if you don’t have the correct region selected in the game. In that case, you’ll match against players who are from that region. And any issue at their end can cause your game to render in slow motion. You can try this and check if you still face the problem. If you do, you can follow the other workarounds shared below:

Use Guilty Gear Strive Potato Mod

Steam user Opaqueluka shared that using the “Potato” mod can help fix the slow-motion issue for you. The Potato mod, also known as the Potato Low Spec mod is a unique mod for Guilty Gear Strive which allows players to run the game on relatively low-spec devices. It removes almost every asset from the game, which in turn fixes the slow-motion issue.

What is the Potato Mod?

Guilty Gear Strive really doesn’t require extremely high specs to run. You can find the minimum system requirements for Guilty Gear Strive on the Steam store page of the game. However, your PC does, at least, need to meet these minimum specifications if you want the game to run properly.

“Potato PC” is a common slang term used in the tech community that refers to old-gen or low-end PCs. The Potato mod actually draws its name from this term. Offered by fgcDraft, this mod allows players to run the game on low-end devices. But what does it actually do? Well, this mod removes all the stage assets except for the floors. You can, however, also opt for slightly tweaked versions of assets that can be problematic to run on low-spec PCs. This way, you can enjoy the game without issues like the one you’re currently dealing with.

How to Install the Potato Mod?

To run the Potato mod for Guilty Gear Strive, you first need to install Unverum Mod Manager from here. Upon downloading, open the app and select Guilty Gear Strive to set up. Browse the files and select the game’s executable file. From hereon, Unverum Mod Manager will start handling every mod for the game automatically.

After this, download the Potato mod for Guilty Gear Strive. Once the mod is downloaded, go to Steam and open your Steam Library. Locate Guilty Gear Strive and right-click on it. Then, open Properties and go to Installed Files. Click on Browse… to locate your game installation directory.

Once you’re in the game installation directory, navigate to the following path: “RED \ Content \ Paks“. Under this folder, create a new folder and name it “~mods“. Extract the .zip file for the Potato mod in this folder and you’re all set. Now you can start enjoying the game on your device without having to worry about performance issues. See if you face the slow-motion issue even after using the Potato mod for Guilty Gear Strive.

Delete the Unreal Engine Files (if you are using UE)

Steam user Foolish Animals shared that deleting the Unreal Engine files can fix the slow motion issue in the game.

  • Visit the following directory: “C: \ Program Files \ Epic Games \ UE X” (depending on the Unreal Engine version). Deleting this folder will erase all the Unreal Engine files from your PC.
  • If you want to uninstall Unreal Engine, you can also do so by visiting Epic Games > Library. Locate the Unreal Engine version installed here and click on the three-dots button. Then, select Uninstall from the drop-down menu to uninstall Unreal Engine from your device. Once finished, boot up Guilty Gear Strive and see if the issue persists.

Fixes Shared by Steam User A-tanatos-Ω

Steam user A-tanatos-Ω shared three workarounds that can help fix the slow-motion issue in the game.

Enable Steam FPS Counter
  • Open Steam and click on the Steam option from the top left corner.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Open In-Game settings.
  • Under In-Game FPS Counter, select the location where you want the counter to appear.
  • Click OK to save the changes.
  • Run Guilty Gear Strive at 30 FPS and see if the issue persists.
Lower Graphics Settings

If you are encountering the slow motion issue, you need to ensure that you have set the in-game Graphics Settings at the lowest specifications to run the game properly.

Ensure the game is run using the Dedicated GPU

For Nvidia graphics card users, you can go to the Nvidia Control Panel and ensure that your graphics card is selected for running the game instead of Intel HD Graphics.

  • Open the Nvidia Control Panel.
  • Go to 3D Settings and open Manage 3D Settings.
  • Click on Program Settings.
  • Go to the Global Settings tab, then select the Preferred Graphics Processor option.
  • Select High-Performance Nvidia Processor from the drop-down menu.
  • Go to Set PhyX Configuration under Settings again.
  • Now select your Nvidia graphics card from the list.
  • Click on Apply, then OK to save the changes. Once done, launch the game to check if the issue persists.

Note: You can do the same via the AMD Radeon application if you own an AMD GPU.

Uninstall Citrix

Well, Steam user Orochi Vegeta shared that the problem in their case was actually being triggered by an update of the Citrix program. If you have Citrix installed on your PC, uninstall it, and then run Guilty Gear Strive. See if it fixes the issue.

Well, these are the workarounds you can try to fix the slow motion issue in Guilty Gear Strive. If you found this guide insightful, keep visiting DigiStatement for more such gaming content and information!
