Out of all the games released in 2022, Sifu happens to be one of the most popular among many. Developed by Slocap, the game was released back in 2022 and went on to receive quite a positive reception from the critics, with high praise going towards its combat. While the game happens to be already available on the Nintendo Switch, it seems like, for many, the Steam Deck is their go-to choice for handheld gaming. And why wouldn’t it be!? The Deck is more powerful compared to the Switch and offers a lot more features. However, the game is not without issues. In fact, a major issue with Sifu on the Deck happens to be that it tends to crash a lot.
Sifu is a Steam Deck Verified title so it runs without many performance issues. But this crashing problem has become a constant source of frustration for many players. Now, the cause here could be anything ranging from an outdated game version to Proton compatibility issues. So, can this issue be fixed? Well, continue reading to find out.
Sifu crashing on Steam Deck: How to fix it?
There’s no official fix for this issue so far, so you will have to make do with the following workarounds. Try these and see if any of them are of help.
Update –
A very common fix for issues like this one happens to be updating the game. So, first of all, check if there’s an update available for the game. If there’s indeed one, download and install it. Additionally, we also recommend updating your SteamOS if it hasn’t been updated in a while.
Switch to another Proton version –
Some players had success dealing with this issue by simply changing to another Proton version. As such, we suggest giving this a try. You can start with Proton 7–17 or Experimental and see if any of these are of help. If both of these don’t work, try all the different versions.
Turn off AO –
One player recommended turning off AO or Ambient Occlusion and also setting Shadows to low if the game tends to crash during the character screen. And as mentioned in that “fix”, try running the game using Proton Experimental or GE.
Use Launch Options –
You can also try using Launch Options and see if that helps with this. All you need to do is switch to Desktop Mode, open Steam, and select Sifu from your Steam Library. Next, click on the cogwheel icon and select Properties. Now, in the Shortcut section, you will see Launch Options. Type in: “DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%”. Next, close the settings and launch the game. Additionally, if you are prompted to install Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime or DirectX, click Yes and install it.
Reinstall –
If none of the aforementioned workarounds are of help, we recommend that you reinstall the game. So, just delete the game and start a new download. Once it’s installed, launch Sifu and check if it crashes again.
