- Open Steam on your PC, and go to your Steam Library.
- Navigate to Aliens: Dark Descent, and right-click on the game.
- From the list of options, select Properties.
- In the General tab, go to the Launch Options section.
- Here, you need to type the following parameter “-USEALLAVAILABLECORES” and then proceed to launch the game. Now, the error shouldn’t appear.
Update drivers
If your GPU drivers aren’t up-to-date, it can trigger the EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error. To fix this,
- Open the Quick Link Menu by pressing Windows+ X, and click on Device Manager.
- From the list of options, locate Display Adapters, and right-click on it.
- Find the primary GPU that you’re presently using. Then, right-click on it, and from the drop-down menu, select Update Driver.
- Finally, you need to select the option that says Search automatically for drivers. Let the process finish up, and then launch the game to check if the issue persists.

Run in Windowed mode
You can also set the Display Mode to windowed to get rid of this error. However, you don’t have to play in windowed mode. To launch the game in windowed mode, head to Steam’s Launch Options menu as mentioned in the first method and enter the following command: “-windowed”. Doing so should fix the issue, as reported by many.
