On June 16, 2023, EA Sports launched its sixteenth entry in the long-running F1 series. Developed by Codemasters, F1 23 is already available for players on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4|5, Linux, and Microsoft Windows. While the game has been getting great reviews, there are some glaring issues with it. Although they are more on the technical side of things than gameplay-related. Recently, some players have been complaining about the microphone not working issue in the game. Since F1 23 is such a new release, problems like these were bound to come up. But like most other problems, these can be solved too. So, here’s a guide that can help you with the microphone not working issue on F1 23.
F1 2023 (F1 23) microphone not working: How to fix it
At the time of writing this article, EA hasn’t acknowledged this issue yet. So, while there is no official fix available, you can follow this guide and see if any of the following methods resolve this issue.
Update your sound drivers (PC) –
Driver updates are important when it comes to PC. You may be experiencing this issue because you have an outdated sound driver. To update, press the Win + X keys to open the Quick Link Menu. From there, select Device Manager. Next, you will see a plethora of options to choose from. Ignore all of them except for “Sound, video and game controllers”. Double-clicking on that option will show two other sub-options: – Intel(R) Display Audio and Realtek (R) Audio. Select Realtek > Update Driver > Search automatically for updated driver software. It will automatically start downloading if there is an update available.
Select the correct microphone device –
In case you are unable to talk to other players using your primary microphone, you need to make sure that the correct input device is selected. You can check this by visiting the Sound Control Panel of your PC and selecting the microphone in use as the default communication device. Also, disable all other microphones that are not in use.
Enable “Allow Apps to access your mic” –
If you are on Windows, you should enable the “Allow Apps to access your mic” option. If it isn’t, then this could be one of the reasons why the game is unable to use your system’s microphone. To enable it, click on Start and select Settings > Privacy > Microphone. Next, you will see the “Allow Apps to access your mic” option. Enable it and then see if the issue still persists.
Verify your game files –
You can also use Steam’s File Integrity Check feature to fix any issues caused by missing files. To start, open Steam and then head straight to Library. Next, right-click on F1 23 and select Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files. Once completed, launch the game and check if the issue persists. You can repair game files via EA’s Desktop application as well.
Check your hardware –
If you are using an external microphone, we recommend checking it for hardware damage. Players can also try another mic to see if the problem is specific to the mic or the game itself. If the issue is with the microphone, then you can use another one. And if the problem lies with the game, then follow the next workaround.
Reinstall F1 23 –
If none of the above methods work, then it’s best to reinstall the game. Reinstalling might be the ultimate fix for the issue.
Anyway, we hope you were able to fix the problem using our provided workarounds. For more guides like these, keep checking out DigiStatement.
