Payday 3 just got an official release date. The Xbox Showcase 2023 revealed the official release of the game, scheduled for September 21, 2023. Payday 3 was announced back in May 2016 and has since been in active development. Well, just in a few more months, it will be finally available for players to play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and, of course, PC. Starbreeze Studios is all geared up for release and has made it clear that more details about the game will be communicated in the upcoming months. The Payday series, which got its start with Payday: The Heist in 2011, has garnered a considerable amount of loyal following over the years. While not as popular as Overwatch, Rainbow Six Siege, or Counter-Strike, it still has a healthy enough player base. In fact, the May 2023 average player count for Payday 2 was 15K+, according to Steam Charts. Not particularly bad for a game that was released back in 2013. And now that Payday 3 is finally going to be released, it will be interesting to see whether the developers are able to satisfy their fanbase. However, there’s one thing that has been bothering some curious players since the gameplay trailer didn’t explain much about it. And that is about the game’s offering of PvP modes.
PvP or Player versus Player is a mode where players are pitted against each other as they try their best to utilize their skills to win. Unlike PvE, where players play together against AI enemies, PvP focuses on players’ skills and strategies. MOBAs and battle royale games are great examples of PvP-oriented games. Is Payday 3 PvP?
No, Payday 3 is not PvP. The mainline Payday series has always been about cooperative shooters, so it’s highly unlikely that the developers will do a complete 180 and pivot toward a PvP-oriented game. At least until the devs announce something like it, you can rest assured that Payday 3 will remain a co-op FPS game and not something akin to Overwatch or Rainbow Six Siege.
Payday 3 takes place right after the events of Payday 2, so lore fans are not going to be disappointed with this one. The developers have already confirmed that they will be releasing a total of four additional heists, four Tailor Packs, and Weapon Packs too, all within one year of the Payday 3 release (Season Pass). Also, if you are worried about having to play the game on different consoles and devices without the same progression, you can ditch that thought. Payday 3 is confirmed to support both cross-play and cross-progression.
