The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom improves a lot upon its predecessor, Breath of the Wild. In a way, it sometimes even feels like Breath of the Wild was just a practice run for the Nintendo devs, and Tears of the Kingdom is the real deal. Improved shrines, more enemies, a better story, and so much more. And it’s all because the developers didn’t have to worry about starting from scratch. Tears of the Kingdom reuses a lot of assets from Breath of the Wild while still managing to feel like an entirely new experience. Due to this, many players have been wondering if they could transfer their horses from Breath of the Wild to Tears of the Kingdom. Well, that’s indeed possible.
Horses were a neat part of Breath of the Wild. While they didn’t have much importance to the entirety of the story, they still had their uses when it came to exploration and travel. Plus, riding on a horse while looking at the beautiful scenery of Hyrule was something that many liked to do. Anyway, coming back to the topic, it is evident that horses are back in Tears of the Kingdom too. But how do you transfer the ones you had in Breath of the Wild to Tears of the Kingdom? Let’s find out!!
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (ToTK): How To Transfer Horses from Breath of the Wild (BoTW)
Do note that before we start, you will need to have a saved file of your progress in BoTW on the same Nintendo Switch that you are using to play ToTK. If you haven’t played Breath of the Wild or have somehow lost your save file, then you wouldn’t be able to transfer over your horses to Tears of the Kingdom. On the other hand, if you do have a saved file, then follow along.
In ToTK, after you complete the tutorial area and leap from the Great Sky Island, you will most likely land near the Riverside Stable. Once you land on hard ground, open your Purah Pad and look for Riverside Stable on the map. The stable is easily identifiable, thanks to the horse-head icon on the map. Now, head straight for the stable.
It isn’t necessary that you go to the Riverside Stable only. Any stable will do fine, to be honest. But the Riverside one will most likely be the nearest one. When you are at the stable, talk to the stablemaster there. After some conversation, there will be an option to register a horse. Pick that option and let the stablemaster register you as a new visitor. Next, he will be surprised that you already have horses registered in your name. Skip through the dialogues and then choose the Take Horse option, and you will get access to all the horses you had in the previous game.
The horses will be in the same condition, stat, and bond level as you left them in BoTW. You are now reunited with your trusty companion in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. For more guides like this, follow DigiStatement.
