Remember the time when you are stuck in an airport having an iPhone but you just can’t charge your phone because the chargers are for android!!( And vice versa).
Isn’t it true that once in our life we have contemplated why can’t all the chargers be same ? Why is it that there are different type of chargers that we often stress on.
Well the European Parliament might make our wish come true . According to a recent post by our Euro fellas, all phones must have same chargers available to avoid confusion & mess .
As we can see the apple community has a series of threads regarding the matter and we dig deep to find out the issue.
Why is this issue important ?
So we have put our mind into the matter and we can see the benefits :
- It will resolve the basic issue on airports and other charging areas making it convinient for public.
- The chargers can be configured with a basic terminal supply allowing the phone to have a constant voltage supply that wont harm.
- The most important factor was the transparent distribution and pricing of chargers if the program is to be implemented
What are the views of phone brands on this topic ?
As of now companies haven’t reacted on this concerned topic but apple maybe has plans on the matter.
Samsung and Honor previously made a statement to solve the issue of chargers made for the public
Previously on Reddit, users made the statement
“We don’t want lightning chargers and stuff , we want universal chargers”
“I happen to be roaming around the world and have three different phones , one IOS and two androids . It’s a struggle to carry three different chargers.”
” spending 20$ again and might buy another after 2 months ( iphone struggles)
Apart from this legislation, some users also have a parallel discussion to prevent universal charging schemes. As some users are concerned about the balance of phone batteries and proper universal configuration .
Well of course universal charging isn’t a one day thing, it will require a different strategy. The high tech manufacturers have to call a meeting for this new legislation .
Anything more ( will this legislation be followed ?)
Well, this link below might surprise you
https://ec.europa.eu/growth/sectors/electrical-engineering/red-directive/common-charger_en
In June 2009, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in which mobile phone manufacturers agreed to harmonise chargers for new models of data-enabled handsets, coming onto the market as of 2011.
As a result, Europe’s major mobile phone manufacturers agreed to adopt a universal charger for data-enabled mobile phones sold in the EU. The MOU committed the industry to provide charger compatibility on the basis of the micro-USB connector.
The above is an excerpt from the official website related to MOU .
This matter is a bit confusing though , we don’t have any further information but it seems that MOU has been takin steps to avoid electric waste ( which is related to chargers) .
The only thing now is to wait for other agreements between the phone manufacturers and the new laws against the electric waste.
